Meet the team

Dr. Candace Walkington

PI
Is an Associate Professor and a Gerald J. Ford Research Fellow in the Department of Teaching and Learning at Southern Methodist University, specializing in mathematics education. Her role on the project is to lead the team, organizing advisory board and evaluator meetings, and overseeing all research studies. 

Dr. Mitchell Nathan

Co-PI
Is a Professor of Learning Sciences in the Educational Psychology Department at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He is the Director of the Center on Education and Work and Director of the IES Postdoctoral Fellowship Program in Mathematical Thinking, Learning and Instruction. His role on the project is to help lead the team and oversee all research studies. 

Dr. Wen Huang 

Post-Doctoral Researcher
Is a Post-Doctoral Fellow in Extended Reality and Immersive Learning in the Center for Global Health Impact and Center for VR Learning Innovation in the Annette Caldwell Simmons School of Education & Human Development at Southern Methodist University. His role on the project is to support with research studies

Julianna Washington

Graduate Research Assistant
Is a doctoral student at Southern Methodist University and former middle and high school math and coding educator. She is a Graduate Research Assistant for Dr. Walkington and supports with research studies. 

Jonathan Hunnicutt

Graduate Research Assistant
Is a doctoral student at Southern Methodist University. He is a Graduate Research Assistant for Dr. Walkington and supports with research studies. 

Fangli Xia

Graduate Research Assistant
Is a doctoral student at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. She is a Graduate Research Assistant for Dr. Nathan and supports with research studies.

José Velazquez

AR/VR Specialist
Is a mixed reality developer at REDHOUSE Virtual Education. His role on the project is to work as one of the AR/VR Specialists. 

George Hickey

AR/VR Specialist

His role on the project is to work as one of the AR/VR Specialists. 

Dr. Anthony Cuevas

AR/VR Specialist

Is an Assistant Dean for Technology and Innovation and Clinical Professor in the Annette Caldwell Simmons School of Education and Human Development at Southern Methodist University. His role on the project is to work as one of the AR/VR Specialists.

Tianyu He

AR/VR Specialist

Is a Mixed reality developer at REDHOUSE Virtual Education. His role on the project is to work as the AR/VR Specialist. 

Elizabeth Stringer

Game Design Specialist
Is the Director of Academics at SMU Guildhall, she continues to consult as designer and content creator for educational games funded by the National Science Foundation and DARPA on varied topics including math instruction, teacher training, and leadership and conflict resolution. 

Katie Wood Clark

Game Storyline Writer
Is a full-time Lecturer in Guildhall at Southern Methodist University. Her role on the project is to work on the development of the games' storyline

Ashton Maltie

Game Artist
Is a former student at Southern Methodist University-Guildhall, studying Interactive technology, art creation, and game development. His role on the project is to develop art for the game.

Michael Borcherds

GeoGebra Lead
Is a coordinator for the software development of GeoGebra, including responsibility for new releases, new features, testing and (with Zbynek) translation. His role on the project is to work on integrating GeoGebra smoothly into the product as GeoGebra Lead.

Monique Zhou

GeoGebra Simulation Designer
Is the Lead Curriculum Designer at GeoGebra. Her role on the project is to work on simulation design for GeoGebra.

Balázs Bencze

GeoGebra Programmer
Is a software welder and fabricator. He is an experienced software engineer working in the computer software industry, developing the GeoGebra mobile app for Android and iOS and leading the mobile development team. His role on the project is to work as a GeoGebra Programmer.

Jan Borovsky

His role on the project is to work as a GeoGebra Programmer.

Is an Associate Professor in the Department of Human Development and Quantitative Methodology in the College of Education at the University of Maryland. His role on the project is to work as the quantitative methodologist.
