24 Frame Playback iPad Setup Instructions

These instructions are ideal settings for on-set performance for iPads

System Settings

1. From the iPad's home screen, open the System Settings app.

2. In the System Settings app, click on the "General" tab.

3. Click "Software Update". Install any available updates for your system.

4. After your system has been updated, open the System Settings app again and click on the "Display and Brightness" tab.

5. In the "Display and Brightness" section, set the following settings:

"Brightness" slider all the way to the right.

"True Tone" to off.

"Night Shift to off.

"Auto-Lock" to never.

6. Click on the "Control Center" tab.

7. In the "Control Center" section, set the following settings:

"Allow Within Apps" to on.

Add "Guided Access" to the "Included Controls" section by clicking the "plus" icon next to "Guided Access". If "Guided Access is already listed in the "Included Controls" section, as seen below, disregard.

Guided Access

NOTE: When running a playback app in a scene, we can use "Guided Access" to make sure that the actor doesn't accidentally lock the iPad or exit the app.

NOTE: Guided Access also removes the unwanted and distracting white bar from the bottom of the screen (shown below).

Once you have started the app that you want to use for on-set playback:

1. To start "Guided Access", swipe downward from the top right edge of the screen to access the "Control Center" while the playback app is open.

2. In the "Control Center" click the "Guided Access" icon.

NOTE - If a "Guided Access" setup screen doesn't appear after a couple of seconds, restart your iPad. This is a known bug in iOS when adding "Guided Access" to the "Control Center" menu for the first time. After restarting your iPad, open the playback app again and resume from step 1.

3. In the "Guided Access" screen, click the start button.

4. The first time you start "Guided Access", iOS will ask you to set a pass-code to exit "Guided Access" mode. For a default pass-code I recommend repeating the number 0 for ease of use.

5. To exit "Guided Access", triple-click the physical home button on the side of the iPad and click the "End" button from the "Guided Access" menu.

NOTE: Screenshots are not available during "Guided Access" (explaining why 3-5 don't have images).

NOTE: In order to not display any warnings or messages during a scene, I ask the actor to not click the physical button on the side of the iPad.
