Youth and Community

"A positive influence will create a positive future."

- Sean Robbins, FSE

Working in the community is an FSE priority. FSE gets involved in the community by hosting or participating in programs designed to encourage and educate young people in fitness and life skills, particularly for those who are disadvantaged economically. Childhood fitness is a national concern in the United States. Too often children’s activities are limited to playing video games, watching television and using the computer rather than playing games and participating in sports outdoors, which has resulted in a high incidence of obesity across the country.

FSE Get Outdoors! Fitness programs are grant-funded programs and events that focus on getting kids back where they belong: outdoors! These programs aim at improving flexibility, cardiovascular fitness and overall health using exercise and proper nutrition.

School teaches children math and science; FSE Life Skills programs focus on social and personal development. Life skills are important to help youth improve their decision making, conflict management, problem solving and other skills that will help them navigate their universe such as the social skills required in dealing with their peers. The program also focuses on planning, setting, and reaching personal goals, such as that of getting a higher education.

Economically-disadvantaged youth often require more assistance in obtaining information on the process of applying for college, obtaining academic and athletic scholarships and grants. As a former college athlete and university coach, Sean Robbins can provide information about these processes and insight into the life of the student athlete.

Sean Robbins has worked as a volunteer tutor in the Akron Public Schools and in the Richland Rural Life Center in Mansfield, Ohio.
