Mr. Saito, Mr. Baba, and Ms. Goto from our laboratory gave presentations at the 2025 Spring Meeting of The Japanese Society of Fish Pathology. Ms. Saito and Mr. Numata also gave presentations at the Spring Meeting of the Japanese Society of Fisheries Science.
当研究室では、魚介類の感染症(ウイルス病・細菌病)に対し、病原体の特性の解明、ワクチンの開発、魚類の免疫機構や耐病性機構に関する研究を行っています。病原体と宿主の両面からアプローチすることにより新たな技術開発を行い、養殖魚介類の感染症被害の軽減を目指しています。
In our laboratory, we delve into research on the infectious diseases (viral and bacterial) affecting aquatic organisms. Our focus includes understanding pathogen characteristics, developing vaccines, and studying the immune and disease tolerance mechanisms in fish. By approaching both pathogens and hosts, we aim to pioneer new technologies to reduce the impact of infectious diseases on cultured fish.
キンギョの養殖で問題となっている「ヘルペスウイルス性造血器壊死症」。病原体となるキンギョヘルペスウイルスを継代培養したり、遺伝子工学的に改変したりすることで、日本初となる魚類用の「弱毒生ワクチン」の開発・実用化に取り組んでいます。
Addressing "Herpesvirus Hematopoietic Necrosis", a troubling disease in goldfish aquaculture, we are pioneering the development and practical application of Japan's first "attenuated live vaccine" for fish by continuously culturing and genetically altering the pathogen, Cyprinid Herpesvirus.
日本各地の水産試験場などから原因不明の病気にかかった魚が持ち込まれることも。病理解剖、病理組織検査、病原体の同定などを行い、その病気の原因や発症過程を解明することも、水族病理学研究室の大切な役割です。
Fish affected by unidentified diseases are brought in from fisheries experiment stations across Japan. By conducting pathological dissections, histopathological inspections, and pathogen identification, elucidating the causes and progression of these diseases is another crucial role of the Laboratory of Fish Pathology.
病原体などの微生物が非常に多い水中で生活するために、魚類は陸上動物とは異なった粘膜免疫システムを発達させてきました。このような魚類独自の粘膜免疫機構の解明を通して、新しいワクチンデリバリーシステムの開発に挑戦しています。
Because of the abundance of microorganisms, including pathogens, in aquatic environments, fish have evolved distinct mucosal immune systems from those of terrestrial animals. By unraveling these unique systems, we are challenging the development of a new vaccine delivery system.
