CALIFORNIA MEDICAL FACILITIES
This is a list of all the hospitals in California by trauma level and capability. You should be transporting patients experiencing trauma injuries to the highest trauma center possible, considering distance. If needed, you can transport to a hospital with an emergency department with a lower trauma level so long as you RP out the transport of the patient from that facility to a higher capable trauma center (ie. transported a gunshot wound patient to TBCC. San Bernardino County Clinic (SSMC) - Level V
The only level V trauma center in California. It is located on Route 68, next to the County Sheriff's station. The lowest-level trauma center in California. Low-acuity traumas should only be brought here.
BCMC has:
Basic emergency department facilities to implement ATLS protocols.
Available trauma nurse(s) and physicians are available upon patient arrival.
After-hours activation protocols if the facility is not open 24 hours a day.
May provide surgery and critical-care services if available.
Has developed transfer agreements for patients requiring more comprehensive care at Level I through III Trauma Centers.
The Bay Care Center (TBCC) - Level IV
The only level IV trauma center in California. Located on Duluoz Avenue and Paleto Boulevard. Has small-sized OR and pharmacy capabilities.
The Bay Care Center has:
Basic emergency department facilities to implement ATLS protocols and 24-hour laboratory coverage. Available trauma nurse(s) and physicians are available upon patient arrival.
May provide surgery and critical-care services if available.
Has developed transfer agreements for patients requiring more comprehensive care at a Level I or Level II Trauma Center.
Incorporates a comprehensive quality assessment program.
Involved with prevention efforts and must have an active outreach program for its referring communities.
Central Los Angeles Medical Center (CLAMC) - Level II
One of two level II trauma centers in California. Bordered by Capital Boulevard, Crusade Road, Davis Avenue, and Innocence Boulevard, on the eastern side of Crenshaw.
Central Los Angeles Medical has:
24-hour immediate coverage by general surgeons, as well as coverage by the specialties of orthopedic surgery, neurosurgery, anesthesiology, emergency medicine, radiology, and critical care.
Tertiary care needs such as cardiac surgery, hemodialysis, and microvascular surgery may be referred to a Level I Trauma Center.
Provides trauma prevention and continuing education programs for staff.
Incorporates a comprehensive quality assessment program.
Mount Zonah Medical Center (MZMC) - Level II
One of two level II trauma centers in California. Bordered by Dorset Drive, Dorset Place, Rockford Drive, Abe Milton Parkway, and Carcer Way in Beverly Hills, California.
Mount Zonah has:
24-hour immediate coverage by general surgeons, as well as coverage by the specialties of orthopedic surgery, neurosurgery, anesthesiology, emergency medicine, radiology, and critical care.
Tertiary care needs such as cardiac surgery, hemodialysis, and microvascular surgery may be referred to a Level I Trauma Center.
Provides trauma prevention and continuing education programs for staff.
Incorporates a comprehensive quality assessment program.
Pillbox Hill Medical Center (PHMC) - Level I
The highest level trauma center in the state of California. Located on Elgin Avenue and Strawberry Avenue.
Pillbox has:
24-hour in-house coverage by general surgeons, and prompt availability of care in specialties such as orthopedic surgery, neurosurgery, anesthesiology, emergency medicine, radiology, internal medicine, plastic surgery, oral and maxillofacial, pediatric, and critical care.
Referral resource for communities in nearby regions.
Provides leadership in prevention, public education to surrounding communities.
Provides continuing education of the trauma team members.
Incorporates a comprehensive quality assessment program.
Operates an organized teaching and research effort to help direct new innovations in trauma care.
Program for substance abuse screening and patient intervention.
Meets the minimum requirement for annual volume of severely injured patients.
St. Fiacre Hospital (SFH) - General Surgery Center
ST. FIACRE HAS NO EMERGENCY DEPARTMENT OR PATIENT INTAKE FOR EMS. DO NOT TRANSPORT PATIENTS TO THIS HOSPITAL.
This hospital handles general surgery, cardiac, urology, and sexual health patients via appointment or walk-ins.
