PREAMBLE;
Fire Command Staff; at any time- May inform a member that they're using improper or illegitimate / Out-Of-Policy uniform or appearance based on their reasonability to determine a violation has occurred. A member will, with respectful intuition, respect and affirm the given order under any circumstance; and is expected to follow said order to the best of their ability when ordered to comply. Members believing that the policy is not being upheld should bring it to the next highest superior thereon. This also applies to facial appearances and other physical demands or traits.
Note: Any EUP that does not have an LAFD texture shall use LSFD for the time being.
ACCESSORIES
BASEBALL CAP. A baseball cap with a curved bill and remaining facing forward over the brow, neat in appearance, may be worn. It shall be blue or black and read 'LOS ANGELES FIRE DEPARTMENT or LAFD'
LA DODGERS HAT. A baseball cap with a curved bill and remaining facing forward over the brow, neat in appearance, may be worn. It shall be navy blue or black and display 'LA' in the "traditional" LA Dodgers font.
SUNGLASSES. Any set of sunglasses may be worn that is not exuberantly bright or attention-grabbing. Glasses must be in a professional appearance. Sunglasses rated with ANSI Z87.1 or equal by OSHA standards are also recommended for dual-purpose use in extrication events.
WATCH. A watch may be worn, but must be taken off if it conflicts with uniform requirements or presents a danger to the member's well-being or to those around them.
GLOVES. Non-Combustible or Flame-Retardant gloves are acceptable but must be changed for disposable surgical gloves when operating on a patient. Failure to abide may result in the gloves being destroyed.
STETHOSCOPE. Personnel assigned to the Emergency Medical Services Bureau may wear a stethoscope around their neck. It shall be black or blue in appearance, and must remove it for formal or non-emergency operations (e.g, inter-agency meetings, inspections, etc.)
Shall be worn at public events, special occasions, or by Departmental Command Staff.
SHIRT. Black long-sleeved shirt, worn with a tie. Plated nameplates and badges
PANTS. Black Suit Pants
FOOTWEAR. Black boots.
Not in server currently.
Shall be worn by any Firefighter I or Firefighter II.
Shall be worn by any member attending an informal event, public education, open interaction with the public, etc.
May be worn by members conducting field activities.
SHIRT. Long sleeve or short sleeve shirt, with an open collar - with a navy undershirt visible. Members assigned to the EMS Bureau as a Paramedic shall wear the LAFD Insignia with the Paramedic Tab visible under the left arm's patch. Fire Department Service Badges MUST be visible, with an embroidered nametape.
PANTS. Navy blue suit pants or standard navy-blue cargo pants may be worn.
FOOTWEAR. Black boots.
BELT. No over-belts, such as nylon or black-leather belts. Personnel assigned to the Emergency Medical Services Bureau are permitted to wear plain, non-conspicuous nylon belts for carrying necessary medical equipment..
RADIO. Members shall retain a department-issued handheld radio on their person and may wear a shoulder-mounted or chest-mounted radio microphone connected to their radio for faster communication. It shall be black or safety lime-green.
Emergency Operations Personnel, in the case of using a shoulder or chest microphone, shall use the older generation Motorola Remote Speaker Microphone. Chief Officers may use the Motorola PMMN4152 Digital Remote Speaker Microphone.
The typical referral of the Class A, B, and C uniform system, more specifically referring to Law Enforcement, does not apply. You either have a Class A Dress Uniform or a Class B Duty Uniform.
May be worn by members conducting field activities.
HOODIE. Members may wear a long-sleeve hoodie in either blue or black, dependent on their rank (Officers shall wear black); It shall say "LAFD or LOS ANGELES FIRE DEPARTMENT" with the department seal or abbreviation where appropriate. Alternatively, if a pair of blue shorts cannot be found that match in color or shade, black shorts may be worn instead.
DEPARTMENT T-SHIRT. May be worn on-call at the station or on calls; must be covered in PPE when the situation demands it. It shall be tucked into the waist of pants, shorts included. It shall be only navy blue for generic issue shirts, or in the case of station-specific shirts, navy blue, grey, or black.
The United States flag-designed LAFD t-shirt may only be worn between June and August by any member of any rank.
Station-specific shirts, either in black, blue, or grey, are authorized only for Firefighter III members.
Generic LAFD T-Shirts in navy blue, grey, or black are restricted for specialized assignments, e.g ACTS
PANTS. Blue Suit Pants, Navy Blue Cargo Pants, Plain Black or Navy Blue shorts.
FOOTWEAR. Black boots with long-legged pants, sports or tennis shoes in black for shorts.
BELT. No over-belts, such as nylon or black-leather belts.
FF/Paramedics are authorized to wear simple nylon belts to carry miscellaneous medical equipment on their person.

REFLECTIVE RAIN JACKET. May be worn by members working in inclement weather or directing/working in traffic.
FIREMAN'S HELMET. May be worn at any time, but must be worn on Technical Rescues & Fire Incidents. All department personnel have been issued a MSA Cairns 1044 traditional-style helmet in their corresponding rank color and shield that shall be worn.
SAFETY GOGGLES. Shall be worn on any extrication or heavy rescue involving the shearing, ripping, tearing, or hydraulic-assisted removal of debris or other sources of potential eye safety impingement. Shall be black in color.
SAFETY GLASSES. May be worn in place of safety goggles. Shall hold an ANSI Z87.1+ safety rating or higher, tint is strongly advised against, but entirely discretionary; but shall not be overexuberant or obnoxious.
BRUSH JACKET. May be worn by members on Technical Rescues or on outside fires, trash fires, forest fires, or when working on an Urban Wildland Interface Team.
BUNKER PANTS. May be worn by members at any time, but is mandatory on structure fires (exceptions: Dependent on IC or Safety Officer). Bunker Pants and gear are not authorized in living areas in a station.
BUNKER TURNOUT JACKET. May be worn by members on Technical Rescues, but MUST be worn on Fire Suppression-related incidents.
HI-VIS VEST. May be worn by members, and shall not be in any color other than green-yellow
BALLISTIC VEST: Shall be worn during shootings or stabbings, or in cases where a scene may be initially secure, but there is still the element of danger possible. Members may also wear a Ballistic Vest under a Bunker Jacket or otherwise. It shall be BLACK in appearance, and display 'MEDIC', or 'LAFD' - Utilizing morale patches without prior written approval is unauthorized. Any member trained at an EMT level shall display a secondary patch of "EMS", whilst paramedic members may opt to use the paramedicine star of life.
BALLISTIC HELMET: Shall be worn in active shooter situations or where a threat of ongoing, perceived violence is still ongoing. It shall be BLACK in appearance, and display 'MEDIC', or 'LAFD'.
This section covers the quintessential use of Fire Protective Equipment. Different from Standardized PPE, FPPE is designed first and foremost as a deterrent to injury of limb or loss of life.
TURNOUT JACKET. Standard khaki-tan Bunker Jacket with reflective striping and LAFD writing affixed to the rear.
Members may choose to either use the worn or the 'clean' version of the pants and jacket.
Members MUST use the version of their choice with their bunker pants for the sake of continuity.
PANTS. Standard khaki-tan bunker pants with reflective striping and suitable kneepads
FOOTWEAR. Worn fire-resistant boots.
FIREHOOD. Must be in either Charcoal Grey or White.
The hood is to be worn when the collar is snapped together to guarantee a correct protective reflection from fire or contaminants.
FIREMAN'S HELMET. All department personnel have been issued a MSA Cairns 1044 traditional-style helmet in their corresponding rank color that shall be worn.
ACCESSORIES. Fire Resistant Gloves, EyeShield Protective Goggles
SELF-CONTAINED BREATHING APPARATUS. Silver in color; PharteAir LAC Pro-Self Contained Compressed Air Cylinder.
The stored compressed air can last between 45 minutes to an hour. Realistically, with the movement of motion and exertion, this can easily change from the aforementioned to more of roughly thirty minutes or significantly less; Be mindful to incorporate this into your roleplay.
Note: If department members are dealing with fires such as wildfires, they may opt to wear the brush fire PPE consisting of brush coat, brush pants, and brush helmet. This is not rated for structure fires, however, and must be replaced with standardized equipment shown above.
Shall be worn by USAR members during special assignments.
SHIRT. Navy-Blue Department-issued T-shirt branded with 'FIRE DEPARTMENT' or 'LOS ANGELES FIRE DEPARTMENT'
PANTS. Worn or New Bunker Pants, harness straps are not to be worn.
VEST. A blue rescue harness with several pouches and equipment stored. It shall be black/blue with the Paramedicine Star visible.
HARNESS. A standardized waist-groin harness, connected to the aforementioned vest. It shall be black.
SHOES. Black Boots.
HELMET. An Orange Fast-Ops helmet, donning the Paramedicine Star & Los Angeles City Fire Department Patch or similar.
EYE PROTECTION. Members may choose between safety glasses or standard SFPPE ESS goggles.
JUMPSUIT. Tan Colored Jumpsuit with green and silver reflectors; two shoulder patches reading 'LOS ANGELES FIRE DEPARTMENT'. May be used in place of the aforementioned.
PANTS. Must be tan to match the jumpsuit above.
HARNESS. A standardized Class III waist-groin harness, it shall be black in color.
HELMET. An Orange Fast-Ops helmet, donning the Paramedicine Star & Los Angeles City Fire Department Patch or similar.
MASK. In extreme USAR disasters, the risk of airborne carcinogens present may be prevented by wearing a surgical face covering along with eye protection. It shall be in white, black, or blue.
The following guidelines or requirements shall be adhered to by any Fire Administrator.

Non-sworn staff shall wear contemporary business attire; shirts may be long or short sleeve dress shirts, blouses, or polo-style with an open collar in neutral colors such as white, navy, gray, black, or muted earth tones. Fire Department badges, nametapes, patches, insignia, and paramedic tabs are not authorized.
T-SHIRT. Only the "Media Relations & Community Liaison (FA5)" is authorized to wear a department t-shirt, only in the performance of field duties, such as being requested to a greater-alarm assignment by the request of a Chief Deputy or higher. It shall be grey in color and display 'LAFD' or 'LOS ANGELES FIRE DEPARTMENT'
PANTS. Personnel may wear suit pants, standard cargo pants, or other contemporary professional attire such as slacks, chinos, or dress trousers.
SUIT. Suits are authorized for staff assigned as heads of an office, bureau, division, or section. For ceremonial or special events, wearing a suit is required for all personnel. Suits are not required for general duties.
TIE. Ties may be worn with dress shirts or suits and should be contemporary, professional, and conservative in pattern and color. Ties are optional unless required for formal or ceremonial occasions.
FOOTWEAR. Any general black footwear that allows personnel to be comfortable in the performance of their duties.
RADIO. Staff assigned to the head of an office, bureau, division, or section may be authorized to carry a portable radio on their person, provided they are trained and given express authorization to do so by the Fire Chief.
