Yes. To-date, news stations do not seem interested in picking up this as a story. Typically is appears they will only air lost dog stories if it is part of a known theft or something similar. Other pet owners have run into this issue before and have received direct communication that if they aired one lost dog story they would be overrun. If you know of someone who could get us on the air, please do not hesitate to contact us. But at this point the effort to continue to contact news stations far outweighs the return we've gotten (which is nothing).
Unfortunately, even if a dog is microchipped, it is not a tracking device. A microchip contains information related to ownership of the dog like contact information, but cannot be activated like a GPS device.
He's not just a dog to me. He's my best friend, my companion, my family. He was my baby before I was able to have a human baby. He helped me overcome so much trauma in my life. You see, dogs give us so much and ask for so little in return. We truly don't deserve the love and loyalty of dogs.
Every person who has lost their dog will decide when it's time to stop looking. I will never reach that point until he is home. But why? There are many stories of dogs surviving and being reunited with their families up to even 4 years later. In some instances the dog was captured early, transported away then got loose again before being picked up and returned. Sometimes they have been found wandering when they finally decided their adventure was over. In any case, we hope that as long as we are willing to fight for our boy that you will join us in this journey.
You don't have to live in the area Storm disappeared! You can help us by looking at the "Ways to Help page," as there are plenty of options to help us remotely from the comfort of your own community/state and even home! As a new mom I find myself needing to reach out via phone or email to vets/businesses/etc. You can also help by reaching out to your local community via social media to see if they will post on our behalf, hang a physical flyer in their location, or at the bare minimum share the info with their staff so they can keep an eye out.
I can't reiterate enough that dogs and people do not stop at county or even state lines. Storm could be anywhere, so it is actually better that we don't completely concentrate ALL efforts only into the immediate location Storm disappeared.
One of our most recent potential sightings came from a follower who was in Los Angeles. We're still working on following up on that lead. Nothing is out of the question when it comes to distance. You can look up many articles of dogs being found across state lines.
We are keeping all of our options open. The answer to this question is that we don't know. Regardless, the most important thing now is to get out the word and make sure everyone is on alert so we can generate sightings. Sightings will help us narrow down our search location and allow us to laser focus our efforts on bringing Storm home.
She is not involved at all and it is not a productive use of our time to discuss or disclose any information about her or how she is or is not involved.
