Audrey Sangla is a French deaf filmmaker. Immersed in the world of image-making and video from an early age through her father, himself a committed filmmaker, she developed a strong sensitivity to visual storytelling and narrative. However, it was only in 2020, at the age of 35, that she directed her first films.
That same year, she directed her first two documentaries for the French television programme L’Œil et la Main, marking the beginning of her filmmaking career. In 2022, she directed her first fiction short film, L’Éclosion (The Blooming), which was acclaimed at several international festivals and notably received the Best Director Award at the Clin d’Œil Festival 2022. The film has since been screened more than 50 times in over 15 countries.
That same year, she paid tribute to her father’s commitment and activism through the documentary My Father, a Committed Man. In 2023, she co-directed the short film 19:24 with Aurélien Mancino, a film that won six awards at international festivals.
Passionate about dramaturgy and socially engaged storytelling, Audrey Sangla develops films centred on human emotions, identity, and subjects that remain underrepresented on screen. She also collaborates on international artistic projects, notably with the Danish theatre company Teater 5005 on dramaturgy and video creation for the stage production On the Edge, as well as with the Norwegian company Døves Media, for which she wrote and directed the short film Serendipity by Sofia, awarded three prizes.
Her latest film, The Glow of Goodbye, premiered in 2025 and has already received seven awards and been screened more than 30 times in over 15 countries.
Through her work, Audrey Sangla aims to challenge social norms, break taboos, and bring sensitive yet universal human stories to the screen.
