This work investigates the ancient funerary rite of "S'Attitu", an improvised monodic chant in Sardinian language that corresponded to very specific rhythmic and melodic forms, entrusted to the female voice of the wailer, accompanied by other women.
A harrowing dirge that escorted the departed during and after the funeral wake, and was often accompanied by precise gestures of the arms and hands, sometimes violent and even self-harming.
In 1553 the Church condemned this type of ritual by threatening to excommunicate the "attitadoras". However, it survived by channeling itself into syncretic forms, and evidences of "Attitu" exist up until the early 2000s.
This chant was extracted from the "Sardegna Digital Library" web portal of the Autonomous Region of Sardinia.
I restored the voice and subsequently composed a piece of electroacoustic music and/or film music, with the intention of emphasizing the aura of mystery that lurks in the shadow of the funerary ritual.

During my studies at the music school, I was able to record several musical rehearsals, tunings of diverse instruments, and various noises coming from the rehearsal rooms, from the corridors, and from the spaces adjacent to the university. I analyzed five years of recorded material, and selected the most interesting parts. Subsequently, I manipulated the sound material and composed a mainly gestural piece, where the “orchestral soul” can be perceived, concealed at times in the acousmatic dimension.

I composed this acousmatic piece by using violin timbres. I recorded improvisation sessions and extracted the most interesting parts. Then I deconstructed, handled and reassembled this sound material. The timbres have been manipulated through analog and digital devices by subjecting them to several types of processing: alteration of pitch, filtering, modulation and granular synthesis. The macroformal level of the resulting work is characterized by the presence of various contrasts and fractures in the sound material.
