From Launch to Representation: Reflections on FINC and What Comes Next
By Dang & Tweetie, FINC Co‑Chairs
Estimated reading time: 4 minutes
Opening Reflection
The launch of the Filipino Informatics Nursing Collaborative (FINC) marked more than the start of a new initiative - it marked a moment of recognition.
Across the UK, the Philippines, and beyond, Filipino nurses came together not just to listen, but to reflect, question, and connect around their place in digital health.
From Readiness to Direction
Leadership, Equity, and Visibility
A key theme throughout the webinar was that many nurses are ready to take the next step but are doing so without clear pathways.
Informatics careers are rarely linear. They are shaped through:
Practice and service experience
Curiosity and problem-solving
A desire to improve care and patient safety
This diversity is not a limitation; it is a strength.
But it does require support, visibility, and guidance, which FINC aims to provide.
The webinar also opened up honest conversations about representation and confidence.
Participants shared experiences of:
Feeling invisible within digital spaces
Not seeing themselves represented in leadership
Lacking confidence to step forward
These conversations matter.
Because digital transformation is not neutral, without intentional inclusion, inequities can persist.
FINC is committed to creating a space where Filipino nurses are not only present, but visible, supported, and empowered to lead.
Leadership, after all, does not always begin with a title.
It begins with confidence, community, and purpose.
Dang: Seeing Ourselves in Digital Health
As an informatics nurse, I (Dang) have spent much of my career working at the intersection of clinical care, digital systems, and change.
What became clear during the webinar was something powerful: many Filipino nurses are already working in digital health, but do not always recognise it.
The questions raised were not about whether digital health matters. That was already clear. Instead, they reflected a deeper uncertainty:
Where do I fit?
Does my experience count?
How do I move forward?
These are not beginner questions - they are the questions of a workforce that is ready.
FINC begins here: in helping nurses recognise their place, build confidence, and move forward with clarity and support.
What the Launch Confirmed
For the FINC team, the launch was both affirming and humbling.
It confirmed what many of us have experienced:
Filipino nurses are already embedded in digital care delivery
Digital expertise exists across roles, specialties, and settings
What has been missing is connection, shared language, and structured support
FINC was created to address this gap, not as an authority, but as a community of practice where nurses can learn, connect, and grow together.
Digital Nursing Is Already Practice
One of the strongest insights from the session was this:
Digital nursing is not a future concept. It is already embedded in everyday care.
Across specialties, nurses are:
Using and adapting digital systems
Supporting safer workflows and documentation
Engaging with data to improve care
Delivering virtual and digitally enabled services
These are not separate roles, but are rather part of modern nursing practice.
FINC’s role is to make this visible, recognised, and supported, so that nurses can see themselves in digital health.
Tweetie: Making the Work Visible
As Co‑Chair, my role in this launch was not only to help introduce FINC publicly, but to help translate the energy of the community into a clearer direction: a space where Filipino nurses can connect digital practice, clinical safety, data, leadership, and professional identity.
My own contribution sits at the intersection of clinical practice, informatics, governance, standards, systems thinking, and evidence-informed writing. This shaped how I listened to the webinar questions. I did not hear them as simple requests for information. I heard them as signals of a profession trying to locate itself inside a fast-changing digital health system.
For me, the core message is this: Filipino nurses do not need to wait until they have a formal digital title before they can see themselves as part of digital nursing. Many are already improving workflows, using electronic records, supporting safer documentation, questioning data quality, adapting to virtual care, or helping colleagues use systems safely. FINC’s task is to help make that contribution visible, supported, and connected.
This is why FINC’s next phase must balance inspiration with practical structure. Visibility matters, but it must be followed by pathways, resources, mentorship, and safe spaces where nurses can ask basic, advanced, and even uncomfortable questions without fear of being dismissed.
Our Shared View: A Global Perspective
While FINC launched in the UK, its vision is inherently global.
The challenges raised - from fragmented systems to limited access to digital learning - are shared across healthcare systems, including the Philippines and beyond.
So too is the expertise.
FINC exists to connect these experiences and enable shared learning across borders, strengthening the global Filipino nursing voice in digital health.
From Inspiration to Action
A Shared Call to Action
The message from the webinar was clear:
Connection and inspiration must now be supported by structure.
FINC’s next steps will focus on:
Providing clearer digital health career pathways
Curating education and learning opportunities
Supporting mentorship and peer development
Creating specialty-focused spaces for discussion
Continuing advocacy for visibility and representation
Most importantly, FINC will continue to listen to its community and co-create what comes next.
Wherever you are in your journey:
Connect with the FINC community
Share your experience and learning
Engage in conversations and development opportunities
Support others on their journey
You do not need a formal title to belong here.
If you work with systems, data, or digitally enabled care, you already do.
From Launch to Advocacy
FINC began as a response to a shared gap.
Now, it becomes something more:
A community.
A movement.
A shared journey.
FINC. From voice. Into leadership. Navigating change. Creating impact.
