In vivo Histology using MRI

We are part of an international collaboration that has produced tools for quantitative MRI as a first step towards in vivo histology using MRI (hMRI). hMRI aims to use biophysical models to infer features describing biological tissue, such as myelin, iron, water and axonal densities, directly from MRI.

These tools are freely available on GitHub as a toolbox plugin for SPM, which originated, and is developed, at our Centre.

Some members of the Physics Group are also working as part of a pan-European consortium to better understand the mechanisms underpinning atrophy that occurs after spinal cord injury: hMRIofSCI
