The Physics Group, led by Martina Callaghan, focuses on the development and optimisation of novel neuroimaging methods to non-invasively characterize the structure and function of the human brain.
We are based at the Wellcome Centre for Human Neuroimaging, which is part of the UCL Queen Square Institute of Neurology
Our work includes pulse sequence design for data acquisition, integration of peripheral equipment, bespoke image reconstruction, and the development of post-processing and data modelling tools.
On 25 May 2019 we took delivery of a Siemens 7T Terra system.
The image shows the view from the hook of a 450t crane that was used to raise the magnet above Queen Square and transport it to its final position at the rear of the Centre.
We also have two research-dedicated Siemens 3T Prisma-fit MRI scanners, one of which is additionally equipped with a prospective motion correction system, and cryogenic as well as optically-pumped magnetometer (OPM) magnetoencephalography (MEG) facilities.
