The Physics Group, led by Martina Callaghan, focuses on the development and optimisation of novel neuroimaging methods to non-invasively characterize the structure and function of the human brain.

We are based at the Wellcome Centre for Human Neuroimaging, which is part of the UCL Queen Square Institute of Neurology

Our work includes pulse sequence design for data acquisition, integration of peripheral equipment, bespoke image reconstruction, and the development of post-processing and data modelling tools.

In spring 2019 we will install a Siemens Terra 7T scanner equipped with parallel transmission capability. This will be one of only 7 in the UK, and in the region of 100 worldwide.

We have two research-dedicated Siemens Prisma-fit 3T MRI scanners, one of which is additionally equipped with a prospective motion correction system.

There are also cryogenic as well as optically-pumped magnetometer (OPM) magnetoencephalography facilities.
