Do you want to help out FFSC but you just want ONE thing on just ONE day to commit to? Here is a breakdown of 10 lowkey opportunities that FFSC needs when we ask for parent support, especially if you DON’T want to be a coach!
1) On the very first day of the soccer season, you can spend 2 hours checking athletes in on a sign in sheet and verify emails for coaches.
2) If teams get uniforms/shirts, you can help distribute it to players the day it arrives at the field and help keep track of errors for the coach.
3) When the cleat swap is happening, you can sign up for 2 hours to help keep cleats organized
to hang out at the clothing sale to help us move old equipment along.
4) When it is picture day, you can help the photographer get teams to the correct spot at the correct time by moving around the fields and inviting teams over to the photographer when it is their turn.
5) When pictures arrive, you can help families get their photos by distributing or delivering them to your team on the field or after practice.
6)You can ask the coach if you can bring a snack or treat on the last day of the season as a celebration.
7) At a soccer game, you could bring a shade canopy for the team on a hot or rainy day.
8) You can offer to help the assistant coach for a single practice or game when the assistant coach is subbing for the lead coach.
9) Purchase FFSC apparel for your player or your player’s biggest fan from our swag store .
10) If you have a riding lawn mower and can donate time or want to learn how to line a soccer field, set up or take down nets, or inflate soccer balls, these are great once per week or month or season ways to help.
Parents and Guardians, did you know you can have zero soccer experience and still be a coach or assistant coach?
Here is what coaching and assistant coaching actually look like when FFSC asks for adult support during a season:
Coach-
⚽Attend one 90 min or less meeting before the soccer season starts,
⚽Register with GotSport and complete the 3 virtual hours of player safety trainings,
⚽Attend as many practices and games for the team as possible,
⚽Learn the names of players,
⚽Keep a roster of players,
⚽Choose 3-5 activities to try with kids at each practice,
⚽Model skills as well as good sportsmanship,
⚽Choose a fair line up for player positions before a game,
⚽Store club soccer gear at home between practices/games,
⚽Email parents with changes in schedule/locations,
⚽Create a clear sub plan if a game/ practice is missed,
⚽Email FFS Club president if concerns arise.
Assistant coach-
⚽Register with GotSport and complete the 3 virtual hours of player safety trainings,
⚽Attend as many practices and games for the team as possible,
⚽Learn the names of players,
⚽Keep kids on track and encourage them to listen to the lead coach,
⚽U4-U8 players need you on the side lines as a professional shoe tie-r during games,
⚽U4-U8 players may need you to model or show them what to do at a “station” in order to practice a skill,
⚽Potentially cover a game or practice that the lead coach needs to miss by following the lead coach's sub plans.
Using enthusiasm, positive thinking, and YouTube, any one can decide to try coaching or assistant coaching! It is not much more of a commitment than attending the practices and games you are already at!
