Noorwegen komt met ongekend hoge CO2-belasting voor oliebedrijven
Oliebedrijven moeten in Noorwegen straks 2000 Noorse kronen (bijna 200 euro) betalen per ton uitgestoten CO2.
Earth system models underestimate carbon fixation by plants in the high latitudes
The terrestrial biosphere absorbs a large fraction of emitted CO2, and thus, plays a critical role in climate change projections. Here, the authors use satellite leaf area and in-situ CO2 measurements to show that most Earth system models largely underestimate photosynthetic carbon fixation in high latitudes.

Carbon Dioxide Levels at Record High Despite Emissions Drop from COVID-19
In climate news, atmospheric carbon dioxide levels have reached their highest level in human history and continue to climb despite a modest decrease in carbon emissions due to the pandemic. With huge swaths of the world’s economy on lockdown, global emissions are expected to decline this year by a record 8%. But climate scientists say that’s not nearly enough to flatten the so-called Keeling Curve of carbon dioxide levels, now at about 415 parts per million. 2020 is on track to be the hottest year ever recorded, beating out 2016.
Rainforests worth $1.1 trillion for carbon alone in Coalition nations
Rainforests worth $1.1 trillion for carbon alone in “Coalition” nations Rainforests worth $1.1 trillion for carbon alone in “Coalition” nations Rhett A. Butler, mongabay.com November 29, 2005 [2006 update] If a coalition of developing countries has its way, there could soon be new forests sprouting up in tropical regions. The group of ten countries, led […]
Model: What increased woody biomass use looks like for the global forest ecosystem
Incentivizing both sequestration and avoidance of emissions— using a carbon rental or carbon tax and subsidy approach—versus only a carbon tax encourages protection of natural forests by valuing the standing stock, according to a new study led by Georgia Institute of Technology.
