Itinerary
After meeting you at your riad or hotel, we will start our adventure exploring the city of Fes. The highlights of our tour are:
Boujloud Blue Gate
We will head directly to Boujloud Gate, which is the most beautiful gate of the Medina of Fes through which you can step back to ancient times.
The Royal Palace
After that, we will drive to see the King Palace's main entrance bronze doors. Take a glimpse at the dazzling exterior of the royal palace. The palace has stunning walls made up of blue mosaic tiles, and the magnificent bronze doors make it a top thing to do in Fes.
The Jewish Mellah
After the Sephardic expulsion from Andalusia in 1438, a walled Jewish quarter was established in Fes . Fez Mellah, the Jewish Quarter of Fez, offers visitors a glimpse into the city's profound history and diverse cultural influences.
The Borj South
After the King's Palace, we will drive to the Borj South. It is a fort in the city of Fes, which was established around 1582 by the Saadian dynasty, likely modelled after Portuguese forts of the time. It is located on the hills overlooking the old city from the south, across the valley from its sister fort, Borj North, on the hills to the north of the city. Today it is also known as a prime lookout point over the old city.
Ceramics and Pottery
After enjoying the panoramic view of the Medina Fez from the Broj South, we will drive to Ain Nokbi if you're interested to experience Fez's beautiful pottery and tiles how they are made. Ain Nokbi is a district just outside the medina where potters were relocated . When we get to Art Naji COOPERATIVE, they will take you through every phase of production, from pot-throwing to painting to the hand-cutting of the pieces for zellige tilework, making such an amazing workAfter the Ceramics and Pottery place, the driver will drop us at the Rcif Gate to start our adventure in the medina, and we will finish with him. It is going to be a walking tour. We will visit the following places:
Place Rcif Market
The market is primarily a food market, offering fresh produce, vegetables, meat, fish, and other everyday ingredients. It’s used by locals, but also visited by tourists seeking to experience daily life in Fez.
The Dyers Souk Sabbaghine
Big dyeing vats where artisans boil fabric in natural and synthetic dyes.Hanging skins of wool in bright reds, yellows, blues, and greens drying in the sun.The process is largely traditional, passed down through generations. It’s one of the most photogenic souks in Fez — bright colors draped across the alleys. A chance to see an authentic craft in action, not just a finished product.
Attarine Mederssa
Al-Attarine is often praised as one of the most beautiful and harmoniously decorated madrasas in all of Morocco. Its richness of decoration in a relatively compact space is especially admired. It’s important not only as a religious-educational institution, but as an architectural heritage site showing Marinid craftsmanship — geometric tilework, carved plaster, wood, etc
Fondouk Kettanine
Fondouk Kettanin or Kettanine Caravanserai is one of the largest and most impressive caravanserais inside the Medina of Fez, Morocco. Built in the 17th century under Sultan Moulay Ismail, it was used as a caravanserai (fondouk), hosting traders, their animals, and goods. Merchants coming from the Middle East, sub-Saharan Africa, and Europe used to rest there, store their goods, and do business.
Moulay Idriss II Shrine
The Zaouia Moulay Idriss II is a revered Islamic shrine and mausoleum located in the heart of the Fès el-Bali district of Fez, Morocco. Dedicated to Moulay Idriss II, the founder of the Idrisid dynasty and the city of Fez, it stands as one of Morocco's holiest sites.
Karaouiene mosque
The AL Karaouiene Mosque( university) is a historic mosque located in the heart of Fez, Morocco. Founded in 859 CE by Fatima al-Fihri, it is renowned as the oldest continuously operating educational institution in the world, recognized by UNESCO and the Guinness World Records.
Chouara Tanneries
The Chouara Tannery in Fez, Morocco, is one of the world's oldest and largest leather tanneries, operating continuously since the 11th century. Located in the Fes el Bali district, this historic site remains a vibrant testament to traditional craftsmanship.
Attarine Market
The Attarine market located in the heart of Fez's historic Medina, is a vibrant and aromatic souk renowned for its rich tapestry of spices, perfumes, and traditional remedies. Nestled along the bustling Talaa Kebira street, this market offers a sensory journey through Morocco's culinary and cultural heritage.
