Welcome to the Advanced Pets Section of the Ferricord FAQ! On this page, we'll be focusing on all things related to Advanced Pets and you can use the Table of Contents to jump to a specific section. If you're new to Pet Making or looking for information on what a 4(20) Max Stats pet is, how to make a pet and how to read a Talent Pool, please visit the Pet Basics section here.
In Wizard101, there are hundreds if not thousands of different Pet Bodies each with their own Wow Factor ranging from 0 to 10, but some Pet Bodies have other special attributes assigned to them that impact the result from a hatch.
These Special Pet Bodies are known as Exclusive, Retired and Unhatchable Pets and each have different rules that they follow in a Hatch regardless of whether you're hatching with someone else via a lend, hatch or the Kiosk or self-hatching.
Author's Note: The term Special Pet Bodies is not the official term or category for these different classifications of Pet Bodies. To simplify this section and avoid having to repeat the same three words over and over dozens of times, I have chosen to use Special Pet Bodies in their place. - Morpheus
Exclusive Pets are the first and most common of these Special Pet Bodies with each of them having a unique Exclusive tag included in the GUI in the Pets section of your backpack to let you know that the Pet Body is special.
Exclusive Pets operate in a very interesting way because in order to even have a chance to get their body back from the hatch, you must meet the following requirements:
Use the Pet Body in the Hatch
For Self-Hatching, the Exclusive Body must be on the Left
For In-Person and Kiosk Hatching, you must use the Exclusive Body
If you meet these conditions in the Hatch, then the normal Body Return Chance based on the Pet's Wow Factors applies. Otherwise, you will always get back the other Pet Body used. Please see the graphic to the right (below for Mobile) for an example of both Hatching scenarios courtesy of one of Ferricord's Pet Specialist's, Montoso.

Exclusive Pets come from a variety of sources with some coming from the Crown Shop, others from Special Events and some even from Raids although some sources are limited time. You can find a list with all of the currently known Special Pet Bodies at the end of this subsection.
Exclusive Pets are beneficial for a lot of different things related to Pet Hatching because of their unique hatching rules. In particular, a lot of Pet Makers like to make their Custom Pools on Hamsters so that others can copy the pool onto any body they'd like without worrying about Wow Factors.
Another benefit to Exclusive Pets is that using them in a Hatch on the right side guarantees you will get back the Pet Body used on the left side, including Retired and Unhatchable Pets.
While this is not very widespread information, you can use an Exclusive Pet like a Class Hamster to transfer a Custom Pool onto a Retired Pet like a Storm Beetle that would otherwise always return a Rain Beetle Pet Body. You can see an example of this to the right (below on Mobile).
As far as we know, this is an intended feature and benefit of Exclusive Pets but it could change in the future depending on what direction Kingsisle goes with the Pet Making system.

Retired Pets are the second type of Special Pet Bodies, working similarly to Exclusive Pets with a slight difference. Instead of always returning the other Pet Body used in a Hatch, Retired Pets will always return a completely different Pet Body which is generally a Hybrid look-alike of the Retired Pet.
For example, any time you Hatch with a Fog Unicorn, you will always receive a Grove Unicorn (Hybrid) which is a completely different Pet but looks visually similar to the Fog Unicorn. The one exception to this is if you use an Exclusive Pet as mentioned in the previous subsection.
What makes Retired Pets unique is that a lot of them were originally released via Promotional Codes for special Wizard101 events and milestones both within the game and the greater community. Other times these Pets were Promotional Codes from partnerships with their parent company Kingsisle and even third-party companies like Beckett Magazine.
While most of these Retired Pets are unfortunately no longer available through any means as any unused Promotional Codes have expired, some of them are available from Skeleton Key Bosses and select Crown Shop Packs. Additionally, if you still have access to Grub Guardian you do have a chance to win new codes for select Retired Pets if you're extremely lucky.
Unhatchable Pets are the third and final type of Special Pet Bodies, acting similar to both Exclusive and Retired Pets in terms of having very specific Hatching rules. Most similar to the Retired Pets though, Unhatchable Pets will always return a completely different Pet Body which is generally a Hybrid look-alike of the Retired Pet.
For example, any time you Hatch with an Egg Chick, you will always receive a Pet Egg which is a completely different Pet but looks visually similar to the Egg Chick.
However, in the case of the Brother and Sister Cheesiwitz Pets, their results will always return a cat-based Hybrid rather than Hybrid look-alikes.
Because the list of Special Pet Bodies is continually being added to and each Retired and Unhatchable Pet Body results in a different Hatch Result, I've put together a handy table below that you can use to reference. This table was built with help from one of Ferricord's Pet Specialist's, App, and will be updated with any new Special Pet Bodies as they are released in the future.

Introduced in the Spring 2020 Update as a way to revitalize the Pet System by adding new possibilities for Pet Talents both in and outside of combat, Adventure and Combat Talents serve different purposes that may be advantageous to add to your collection.
Adventure Talents simply put are essentially activities or quests your Pet can go on to collect something for you, ranging from reagents to treasure cards to even Azoth depending on the Adventure Talent.
Combat Talents also more commonly known as Will-Casts on the other hand act as in-battle utility spells that you can have your pet cast every so many rounds based on the Talent. The range of these Will-Casts is still fairly small with most consisting of damage buffs like traps and bubbles, but the potential for these Talents is huge.
For both of these categories of Pet Talents, Pets can have 1 of each meaning you unfortunately can only have 1 Adventure and 1 Combat Talent per pet as not to make them too overpowered. Secondly, the majority if not all of these Talents are Locked to start unless the pet you are using to hatch has the Talent Unlocked. To learn how to Unlock these Talents and keep them Unlocked throughout the pet making process, please visit the Pet Tokens subsection further down this page.
The most important thing to be mindful of when looking into and using Adventure and Combat Talents is their use requirement: Pet Happiness. Each Adventure and Combat Talent has a Happiness cost associated with it, so if you plan to do extensive farming or grinding with any of these Talents make sure you're giving your Pet lots of snacks for Happiness through the Pet UI above your Health and Mana globes!
To learn more about the different kinds of Adventure and Combat Talents available as well as how these Talents work, please visit the Final Bastion guide by Cody RavenTamer here.
Adventure Talents are unfortunately the more lackluster side of these two Pet Talents with only certain Adventure Talents really being worthwhile and currently accessible. With that being said, some of them are really helpful as you can get bonus reagents, Azoth and even Spellements. If these bonus rewards sound awesome, then be sure to check out these Adventure Talents:
School Scout Talents
The School Scout Talents allow you to send your currently equipped Pet off to collect a reagent for you rather than walking over to it yourself and will always give you a bonus Reagent from a set pool AND 1 Azoth Treasure Card.
Elemental & Spiritual Scout
Just like the School Scout Talents, these two Talents will allow you to send your currently equipped Pet off to collect a reagent for you rather than walking over to it yourself and will always give you a bonus Reagent from a set pool AND 2 Azoth Treasure Cards. The downside to these Talents are that they takes longer than the School Scout Talents as well as costs more Happiness.
Elemental & Spiritual Retriever
These Talents allow you to send your currently equipped Pet off to open a Wooden Chest for you rather than walking over to it yourself and will always give you Spellements based on the World you use it in. The downside to these Talents are that they have a long cooldown and require Elemental or Spiritual Retriever Tokens which are only available from Housing Gauntlets and occasionally the paid Scroll of Fortune or PvP Pass.
To learn more about the different kinds of Adventure and Combat Talents available as well as how these Talents work, please visit the Final Bastion guide by Cody RavenTamer here.
Combat Talents are the more commonly used and much more worthwhile side of these Talents with Will-Cast Spells being divided into a couple of different categories:
Will-Cast Hits
Will-Cast School Bubbles
Will-Cast Traps
Will-Cast Utilities
Will-Cast Debuffs
Will-Cast Omen (PvP)
All of these Combat Talent categories are No PvP except for the Will-Cast Omen Talents that were added in the Summer 2022 Update and all have their own unique uses. Will-Cast Hits like Frozen Kraken, Vampire, Leafstorm and Link are all used frequently in the Deckathalon while Will-Cast Traps like Hex and Curse are used for One-Round farming strategies. The Will-Cast Bubbles are slowly making their way into certain solo strategies, and the Will-Cast Utilities and Debuffs are used by some players for niche strategies and questing.

If you're sick and tired of the endless grind for Gear, Spellements, Seeds and more than you're going to love the endless grind that is Pet Tokens! These special reagents are what allow you to Unlock your pet's Adventure and Combat Talents.
While getting some of these Pet Tokens can be a very long and tedious process, others are much easier and for most Adventure and Combat Talents, the cost is worth effort you put into unlocking them.
This section will go over everything you need to know related to Pet Tokens and I highly suggest reading it in order to ensure you don't miss any important information.
Before we get into the specifics of where to get Pet Tokens and how to use them, it's good to break down the different Tiers of Tokens that are available. As of now, these are the current Tiers of Tokens:
Tier 1: Talent Tokens
Tier 2: Elemental, Spirit and Harmonious Tokens
Tier 3: School Specific Tokens
Tier 4: Talent Specific Tokens
Each of these Tokens come from different sources in different amounts, and the Double Reagents Member Benefit will double the amount of Tokens you receive from specific sources. As of now:
Tier 1 and 3 Tokens are only available from Pet Training as Pets reach certain Pet Ages
Tier 2 Tokens are only available from Pet Training as Pets reach certain Pet Ages and as a Points Reward during Pet Promenade
Tier 4 Tokens are only available as a rare drop from specific Housing Gauntlet Bosses
To learn which Pet Ages Tier 1-3 Tokens and which Housing Gauntlet Bosses Tier 4 Tokens are available from, please review the table below. Thank you to Ferricord Members App and Iceminer for assistance with compiling the list of Tokens.

As you likely noticed in the table from the subsection above, you can receive Rank 1-3 Tokens from Pet Training based on the age of the Pet, but what Tokens you receive can differ based on the following:
The School of the Pet Body
The Age of the Pet
Chance for Bonus Tokens
To understand the specifics of when, what and how many Tokens you get from specific Pet Ages, it's important to understand the following:
You are more likely to receive Tier 3 Tokens that match the School of the Pet Body being trained, however, you can still receive any of the other Tier 3 Tokens in the triad.
Elemental Bodies can reward you with Fire, Ice, Storm or Balance Tokens
Spirit Bodies can reward you with Life, Myth, Death or Balance Tokens
Balance Bodies can reward you with any of the 7 School Tokens
You are more likely to receive Tier 2 Tokens that match the School of the Pet Body being trained, however, you can still receive any Tier 2 Tokens from any Body.
Each Pet Age beginning with Ancient will reward you with a pre-set amount of Rank 1, 2 and 3 Tokens based on the Pet Age achieved with each Age giving different Ranks.
Each Pet Age beginning with Ancient has a chance to reward you with a pre-set amount of bonus Rank 1, 2 and 3 Tokens based on the Pet Age achieved, with each Age giving different Ranks.
During the Double Reagents Member Benefit, Tokens rewarded are doubled, however, it doubles the exact Tokens you are rewarded so you have a chance to receive 4 of the same School Token from one Ultra Pet.
To learn which Ranks of Tokens you can receive as guaranteed and bonus rewards at each Pet Age, please review the tables to the right (below on Mobile). Thank you to Ferricord Member App for assistance with compiling the Token Ranks and amounts rewarded at each Pet Age.

Now that you know what Pet Tokens are and where you can get them from let's talk about what you can do with them. First and foremost, you can use the Talents to Unlock Adventure and Combat Talents with different Talents costing different amounts and types of Tokens based on the Talent Rarity. As of now, the Token Costs for each Talent Rarity are:
Common
No Unlock Requirements
Uncommon
15 Talent Tokens
Rare
30 Talent Tokens
10 Elemental or Spirit or Harmonious Tokens
Ultra-Rare
45 Talent Tokens
20 Elemental or Spirit or Harmonious Tokens
5 School Specific Tokens
Epic
60 Talent Tokens
30 Elemental or Spirit or Harmonious Tokens
10 School Specific Tokens
5 Talent Specific Tokens
Epic (PvP ONLY)
45 Talent Tokens
20 Elemental or Spirit or Harmonious Tokens
5 School Specific Tokens
As of now, that's really the only use for Pet Tokens but like anything else, you can always set them on fire to keep your Wizard warm during your adventures or hoard them like a dragon in your reagents bag. Personally I like to keep a stockpile of them on my Wizards incase I ever need to unlock an Adventure or Combat Talent and especially in case I accidentally mess up and need to unlock a Talent a second or even third time.
Now you know about how to get and use Pet Tokens, it's important that you understand the very important differences between Locked and Unlocked Adventure and Combat Talents. By default, most Adventure and Combat Tokens start off as Locked meaning you cannot use it and must use a specified amount of Tokens to Unlock the Talent.
When you Unlock an Adventure or Combat Talent, there are two very important things to be aware of:
The Talent Priority of the Adventure or Combat Talent is different when Locked or Unlocked and so unlocking a Talent may move it up or down in the Pool.
The Unlocked Talent will remain Unlocked in all future offspring of the Pet with the Talent on your account.
The first point is important to be aware of for reading the Talent Pool as recognizing that the Talent Priority changes will help you be able to read and understand the Talent Pool.
The second point is important to be aware of because if you plan to make use of the same Adventure or Combat Talent in multiple custom pools or in multiple Pets on multiple Wizards, you want to only Unlock it once instead of multiple times. However, there are some strict rules you need to follow to ensure the Talent remains Unlocked on all offspring:
Once the Talent is Unlocked, it will remain Unlocked in all future offspring but is not retroactive to offspring hatched before it was Unlocked.
The Talent being Unlocked only applies to that Pet and it's future offspring. It will not Unlock the Talent on any other pets you have on that Wizard.
The Talent will remain Unlocked on the pet(s) no matter which of your Wizards you transfer it to using the Shared Bank.
The Talent will be Locked for any offspring that other Wizards receive through hatching with your Pet and they will need to Unlock the Talent themselves. IF the other Wizard is using a Pet with the same Unlocked Talent then both offspring will have it Unlocked.
As this all can be a little confusing to wrap your head around, I've made two simple graphics to the right (below on Mobile) that show you how to ensure an Unlocked Talent remains unlocked throughout the Hatching process.

The idea of isolating specific talents through Iso Pets is a common process in the pet making community as it allows for players to make custom Talent Pools and keep up with the constantly changing PvE and PvP metas. But before we get to how one goes about doing that, it's important to understand what an Iso Pet is.
An Iso Pet is a pet with every talent in the Talent and Derby Pools being common besides the intended talent you want to isolate. These pets typically tend to be 2.0 to ensure that the stats of all hatches with it continue to have max Pet Stats, but sometimes this isn't always possible.
Iso Pets can come in different forms with some having 1 Talent isolated and others have up to 9 Talents isolated although 1-5 is most common. The reason why Iso Pets are popular is because they're effective tools when it comes to making bases for clean pools or swapping out an unwanted Talent in a complete pool such as the Montoso Piercer Variant Gargoyles.
As Iso Pets can differ, the names that they have in the Pet Making community may differ as well so you may see numbers attached or references to a clean pool. For example, an Iso Pet with five isolated Talents may be called an Iso 5 or a Clean Pool Pet.
Creating Isolated Talents is a fairly straightforward process but it can also be incredibly tedious and time consuming. To begin, start by determining what Talent you want to isolate and begin hatching a pet with that Talent manifested with a 4(20) Pet and make a note of where the Talent you want is in the Talent Pool.
Every time you hatch, make sure you are keeping track of the Talent you want and do the following based on the outcome:
If the offspring has the Talent you want isolated, then hatch it with the 4(20) Pet and continue working to isolate the Talent
If the offspring does not have the Talent you want isolated, then discard it and use the previous pet used in the hatch and continue working to isolate the Talent
When you are done, the Pet should have 1 Isolated Talent with otherwise all Common Talents. If you are trying to isolate a Common Talent, tracking it may be harder so you may want to consider using a Pet with all Uncommon, Rare, Ultra-Rare or Epic Talents, however, this generally isn't necessary or helpful.
Just like creating Isolated Pets, making Custom Pools can be an incredibly long, tedious and costly process, but it also gives you the freedom to create a Talent Pool suited to your specific needs. Before you begin trying to make a Custom Pool, it is extremely important you understand the full process from start to finish so we advise that you watch a video on this exact process by Ferricord Pet Specialist Wenius. When you're done, come back here and read through the rest of this section to make sure you have all your bases covered.
Before we get into the how's of Custom Pools, it's important that we quickly cover the what's as there are different types of Custom Pools that have different names to help differentiate them.
The first of these are Clean Pools which is the title often assigned to pets with Isolated Talents. This is to note that aside from the 1-5 Isolated Talents, they have all Common Talents in the Pool.
The second of these are Full Pools which is the title assigned to pets with 10 desirable Talents, allowing Pet Makers to make various combinations of pets with the same 10 Talents. An example of a Full Pool are Montoso's Piercer Variant Beguiled Gargoyles which are pictured below and are designed for each individual School.
No matter what type of Custom Pool you're making, the process begins the same: using pets with Isolated Talents to start to stitch together 1-10 desired talents into a Talent Pool. As you go about this process, Montoso recommends ignoring what Talents each Adult Pet manifests and focus on ensuring all of the Isolated Talents get added to and remain in the Talent Pool throughout each hatch.
Because making Custom Pools can be quite tricky and frustrating to make and manage with how the Pet Making System as a whole works, this is the process that is best to follow for Iso 5s and Full Pools:
Hatch Isos A + B together until you have an Iso AB
Hatch Isos AB + C together until you have Iso ABC
For the next step, there are a couple different ways you can tackle adding the next 2 Talents to your Custom Pool, so experiment with what works best for you.
Hatch Isos AB + D and AB + E together until you have Isos ABD and ABE OR Hatch Isos D + E together until you have Iso DE
Hatch Iso ABC + ABD + ABE OR Isos ABC + DE together until you have Iso ABCDE
At this point, you can stop hatching Isos together and you will have an Iso 5 Pet OR you can repeat the process over again for the other 5 Talents needed for a Full Pool. If at any point the offspring loses one or more of the Isolated Talents, discard it and hatch again with the parents until the Talent Pool has the correct Isolated Talents.
Author's Note: You may want to keep copies of hatches that accidentally drop an Isolated Talent for future projects and when chosing what Isos to hatch together, think about what Talents work best together. For example, for Iso AB you might want Talent A to be Spell-Proof and Talent B to be Spell-Defying as a Proof + Defy Iso can be valuable in many custom pools. - Morpheus
