Personal Laboratory of Musicology - PerLab / FL
Laboratório Pessoal de Musicologia - PerLab / FL
The need to establish a laboratory dedicated to the treatment of musical documentation arose directly from the challenges of field research in Belém do Pará, namely, from the project Documentary Archives and Bibliographic Collection at Belém Cathedral, developed at the State University of Pará (UEPA), in partnership with the School of Music of the Federal University of Pará (EMUFPA). Thus, equipment was acquired with personal resources – belonging, therefore, to Fernando Lacerda –, which resulted in the organization of DoMus/UFPA - Musical Documentation Laboratory of the Federal University of Pará. DoMus/UFPA was officialized at EMUFPA in 2020, and coordinated by Lacerda from then until 2023, when he began to enjoy unpaid leave. With the approval of the change in work regime to part-time, Lacerda's activities at the EMUFPA became strictly teaching, and no longer research, extension or administration. On the other hand, the carrying out of musicological research was not interrupted and, with the remaining equipment, previously lent to DoMus/UFPA, PerLab / FL was established in 2025, for the personal use of Fernando Lacerda. This laboratory will be used for his research activities and courses outside the scope of UFPA. Below is a brief description of the PerLab / FL equipment.
Câmeras Digitais DSLR
Together with photography supports (cranes) and lighting items, the two Canon DSLR cameras model EOS Rebel T100 allow the capture of images of documents, being controlled remotely, with mirroring of the display on mobile phones. The cameras also serve to record videos, if necessary. Cell phones with automatic focus are also used, on specific supports, to produce images of documents. In this case, the shots are taken using a remote control.
Audio Converters
Conversores de áudio
Record players, cassette players and CD players allow, through computer interfaces, the capture of phonograms, the migration of information to another medium and the subsequent editing of the captured audio, if necessary.
Conversores de Audiovisual
Videocassettes (VHS), camcorders (VHS-C, 8 mm./Hi8 and mini DV), DVD players and capture cards via RCA cables allow the migration of video recording information and its eventual subsequent editing. PerLab / FL also has mobile data storage devices produced on computers: 3 1/2" floppy disk reader, CD and DVD reader.
Gravadores
For recording interviews there is a digital audio recorder. To record musical practices in the field, some of the devices mentioned above (DSLR cameras, cell phones, ring lights for lighting and the crane) are adapted, in addition to specific pedestals and the Zoom H1n field recorder.
