About
His career began in the field of religious music, serving in both Catholic and Protestant churches for about two decades. He holds a degree in Music, with a specialization in Composition and Conducting, from São Paulo State University (UNESP), and a Bachelor of Laws (B.L.) from Mackenzie Presbyterian University. Fernando Lacerda also holds an M.Res. and a Ph.D. in Music/Musicology from UNESP and completed postdoctoral research at the Graduate Programs in Letters and Arts at the mazonas State University, in Music at the Federal University of Minas Gerais, and in Arts at the Federal University of Pará. He received scholarships from Proex/UNESP, CAPES and Propesp/UEA for his undergraduate, graduate and postdoctoral studies. He has teaching experience at various levels of education. His field research mapping musical collections currently covers 230 cities. He has dedicated his work mainly to the following themes: religious music and Brazilian musical collections. He is the author of approximately 185 titles, including journal articles, book chapters, and full conference papers —published or in press— approximately 150 of which are as sole author. His works have been awarded or featured in five academic events. He was the second secretary of the National Association of Research and Graduate Studies in Music (ANPPOM, Brazil). From 2020 to May 2025, Fernando Lacerda was the leader of PatriMusi - Musical Heritage in Brazil Research Group. He was the founder of DoMus - Musical Documentation Laboratory of Federal University of Pará (UFPA), and its coordinator. In 2022, he also conducted the DoMus Chamber Orchestra and conducted two concerts featuring works by composers born or active in the Amazon. He organized the Brazilian Encounter of Musical Documentation and Musicologies, in 2021 and 2022, and has also coordinated thematic symposia and working groups in several academic events. Among these, the Thematic Symposium 'Brazilian Musical Collections' stands out, in several editions of the ANPPOM Conference, as well as the coordination of the Musicology subarea of the same event in the years 2022 and 2024. He was the editor of the Northern Region volume of the ANPPOM project "Musics Histories in Brazil". His full list of publications is available on ResearchGate. He is a professor at the School of Music of UFPA. He is currently on unpaid leave, with a return scheduled for August 2026. During this period, he offers the professional development course "Archives, Collections and Musical Documents" at the Tatuí Conservatory (online) and some classes as a guest lecturer at the Graduate Program in Music at Federal University of Paraíba (UFPB).
