Fernando Grillo (1945-2013) double bass soloist and composer, is one of the most original protagonists of the music of our time.
He was the initiator of various musical avant-gardes and created new techniques of sound production and musical expression for stringed instruments, of which he is one of the greatest enthusiasts.
The visual element, the gesture that precedes the sound and his "sound sculptures" give modernity to his interpretations, proposing a new psychology of listening.
The unheard-of timbral event, the instrumental invention, the esoteric awakening, the musical talent, the lyrical arc, so realistically present in his work, reveal the echo of the past as well as of a present.
Many composers have written for him and for some he has been an important source of inspiration. For his playing Karlheinz Stockhausen called him The Buddha of the double bass. Grillo also worked on the music for the poetic work I mal de' fiori by Carmelo Bene.

È stato l’iniziatore di diverse avanguardie musicali e ha creato nuove tecniche di produzione sonora e d’espressione musicale per gli strumenti ad arco, di cui è tra i massimi cultori.
L’elemento visuale, il gesto che precede il suono e le sue “sculture sonore” imprimono modernità alle sue interpretazioni, proponendo una nuova psicologia dell’ascolto.
L’evento timbrico inaudito, l’invenzione strumentale, il risveglio esoterico, il talento musicale, l’arco lirico, così realisticamente presenti nella sua opera, rivelano l’eco del passato come di un presente.
Hanno scritto per lui molti compositori e per alcuni è stato un'importante fonte di ispirazione. Per il suo modo di suonare Karlheinz Stockhausen lo definì Il Buddha del contrabbasso. Grillo lavorò anche alle musiche dell'opera poetica I mal de’ fiori di Carmelo Bene.
