Electives
Fellows are encouraged to creatively develop elective learning experiences to meet their own learning needs.
Not all elective blocks are required to be one month long, but may span more than one month, be longitudinal, or be shorter than one month in duration.
Examples of past or potential electives include:
Research (must do 2.5 months)
Dental Anesthesia (with LLU School of Dentistry dental anesthesiologists, providing anesthesia for dental procedures)
Toxicology (with LLUMC EM toxicologists - Brian Wolk)
Ultrasound (with LLUMC EM ultrasound group; October-December are off limits for medical students so might be best months; may need to work nights, weekends, and holidays). Can also attend any scanning shift on US schedule - contact Dr. Stephanie Tseeng.

Pediatric Radiology
Forensic Pediatrics (Child Abuse)
Pediatric Ophthalmology
LIME (Laboratory for Innovations in Medical Education) with Tim, medical student electives in October, December and Summer
Pediatric EKGs (2 weeks - Liz Fierro)
Additional clinical Pediatric ED month
Adult Anesthesia (with Loma Linda VA anesthesiology group)
Medical Education (contact Deena Bengiamin, Tim Young, and/or Nancy Ngo)
Medical Simulation (please contact Tim Young and/or Dustin Smith)
International trip (with International Emergency Medicine Fellowship in September or April, coordinate with Dr. Besh Barcega. Destination options: Mozambique, Gaza/West Bank, and more)
Administration (with LLUMC EM medical directors/QI director/division chiefs and self-study; develop and improve pathways and attend meetings)
Nursing (2 weeks; with LLUMC EM nursing staff and administration)
Clinical Supervisory Elective ("Pre-attending") (PGY 5 only; shifts with PEM faculty taking presentations from trainees)
Self-designed elective (by special permission only - contact Tim/Heather)
Research and statistics (Lance Brown - there is an Advanced statistics option)
