Stepping Back: Where I Was
I am a lifelong learner with a passion for teaching and personally strive to become more technology savvy. I continually look for learning opportunities to stay well informed and up to date to provide higher quality student-centered support as an information literacy and library instructor.
During my attendance at workshops for the 2018-19 San Diego/Imperial County Community College Association (SDICCCA) Fellowship, I learned about this exciting professional development opportunity that was available to new and experienced higher educators and without hesitation, I quickly enrolled in the certificate pathway for online teaching with @One.
The Learning Process: Where I Am
With a strong work ethic and problem-solving skills, I persevered, quickly grasping new concepts and finding myself seeking more learning opportunities along the way. While my personal teaching experience in the academic field has been limited, I found creative avenues to use my personable and patient nature to immediately apply my new educational experiences, knowledge, and skills to support students as an advocate and teacher in my one-shot information literacy instruction.

- Acquiring the latest knowledge in online education research and new educational technologies
- Network and collaborate with forward-thinking online educators and education experts worldwide
- Pre-conference sessions offer hands-on practice developing evidence on Canvas and other technology tools to earn micro-credentials towards an open badge
Online Teaching Conference
An annual inter-segmental peer-to peer premier gathering conference focused on innovative online education curriculum, technology, and pedagogy in the California Community College System
Professional Growth Opportunities:
- Attend pre-conference workshops and presenter sessions to learn from experts in the field distance education in higher education
- Share, connect, and network with educators throughout California Community Colleges to learn best practices
- Topics of interest include online teaching practices to foster student success and student equity, emerging technologies, and support resources for students and faculty

- Participate in FLEX professional development workshops on technology and online learning at my institution and share and collaborate with the Library department
- Watch tutorials on MiraCosta’s Arc Video Management System and ConferZoom to design engaging, interactive videos to increase student engagement in Canvas
- Familiarize myself with available resources at MiraCosta’s Teaching/Technology Innovation Center and MiraCosta’s Online Educators (MOE)
