Lucy Hudson Artistic Director and Teacher
I have always had a love for the arts both performance art and visual art. I studied both at school but after my A-levels I chose to further study dance. In 2003 I graduated with my BA Honours degree in Contemporary dance with a specialism in choreography from Manchester Metropolitan University.
Later that year, I gained my LAMDA qualification to teach Musical Theatre to exam specification.
I then spent six months training at Pineapple Studios under Vanessa Leigh-Hicks in Jazz and Musical Theatre Craft which allowed me to hone my abilities in Theatre Craft and pass those skills onto my students.
I have been teaching in and around the North East for 20 years in various schools and with different performance companies such as;
The Samling Foundation, The Dan-sing Academy, U.Dance England, St Josephs Middle School, Walkergate Junior School, Prudhoe Community High School, The Royal Grammar School and Mowden Hall.
I was also Artistic Director of Jemms Performance Company for 17 years and was instrumental in the delivery of all dance and drama lessons that culminated in a large scale musical show twice a year.
It was when I reached 18 that I realised I wanted to teach. I believe dance can help children and teenagers develop their sense of ‘who they are' it gives them a sense of achievement and they are able to find a certain style that reflects their personality. It can really help people who lack confidence and it’s another way to express yourself. It’s also just a lot of fun and a great way to stay fit. And so in 2003 Feet First Dance was born.
Now, 20 years later I decided I wanted to help nuture the creative spark across multiple art forms. Drawing from my experiences as an illustrator and creative writer, I devised a creative programme that will help to develop our students creativity in a number of creative outlets. The arts is something that I'm passionate about and I want to pass that passion onto the next generation.
Jayne Campbell- Assistant Director and Teacher
I have always loved to dance, although it wasn't until 16 that I knew I wanted to make this my future. After obtaining my Performing Arts A-Level I took my life in the direction of specifically Dance. I went on to study Dance and Choreography at Northumbria University. Since then I have taught in a multiple styles including, Contemporary, Ballet and Commercial, within a variety of environments including schools and gyms, whilst always maintaining connections with Feet First Dance.
More recently I have qualified as a Gym Instructor and now teach Zumba, along with other fitness classes in the local area. I feel this links my 2 passions perfectly, Dance and Fitness.
It is now 14 years since I began working for Feet First Dance, I believe strongly in the ethos that this company aims to achieve. Let's focus on all our students feeling equal and confident in their own abilities so that they they can achieve great things.
Hi! I’m Kat. About a million years ago I graduated with a BA (hons) degree in Television Production and achieved a diploma in Acting with LAMDA. Since then, I have completed a variety of work in an arty-farty capacity! I have delivered whole-school singing for the Northumberland Music Service (and currently deliver singing assemblies and a choir at Wylam First School), worked as Project Manager for education projects with Samling in Hexham, been stage manager for an Opera project in Teeside and I worked for, and ended up running (with Lucy!) Jemms Performance Company, which involved producing, directing and conducting local children in productions at the Queens Hall in Hexham. I have taught clarinet one-to-one and have delivered the LAMDA syllabus in Acting, Public Speaking and Verse & Prose at the RGS in Newcastle, where I still am after 17 years (eek!) Before having my three babies (who are now not babies anymore!), I worked for Feet First, teaching dance and singing.
In my spare time, when I’m not nagging my kids to hang up their wet towels/put their clean clothes away/eat their veg, I love blasting tunes in my earholes whilst walking in the beautiful Northumberland countryside. I am trying to graduate from the Les Dawson School of Piano-Playing, I love reading, baking ridiculous cakes (usually involving Curly Wurlys) and singing anything full-pelt in the kitchen, always getting all the words wrong and often with an accompanying dance routine (to the DELIGHT of my kids – there is a lot of eye-rolling). I LOVE the theatre and a good ol’ gig.
The arts are SO, SO, SO important and I am passionate about making sure every child has the opportunity to get their creative juices flowing, and to build confidence and friendships in a fun and inclusive environment. Feet First Arts Academy’s ethos is all this - I am thrilled to be back working for Lucy, and inflicting musical theatre numbers on the children of the North-East.
