From practice to performance... creative classes for all
Feet First Arts Academy is based in Wylam with another hub in Stocksfield and we provide a positive environment for the learning and creating of dance and the exploration of the creative arts. We help students of all ages and abilities to develop their technique and performance skills in dance, drama and music. We also nurture our students creative streaks by encouraging them in our creative art classes which include choreography, art, photography and video.
Here at Feet First we nurture our students creativity and promote a love of the arts no matter what level our students are at, or what creative outlet they are interested in. Our classes encourage self expression, creativity and inclusivity helping our students to grow and feel confident on the stage and behind the stage. We showcase our student's talent and give them various performance opportunities and a platform to learn and create without the pressure of exams. We strive for excellence in performance work and creative exhibitions which the students take great pride in and really enjoy.
We hold 3 performances a year at the end of each academic term and we also run 2 extra performances that our students manage.
Within classes, students learn performance and techinical skills and they learn how to harness their creativity.

Weekly Classes
At Feet First Arts Academy we offer weekly classes in Ballet, Contemporary Pop/Stage, Theatre Craft, Art, Choreography and Acro for ages 3-18 years.
Our classes offer a relaxed and nurturing space for our students to learn and progress in their chosen artistic venture.
3 Shows A Year
Whilst we dont offer exams we do encourage technical growth and performance development giving our students 3 in house performances a year.
We also seek out many other unique performance opportunities such as regional dance platforms and dance for camera projects.
Competitions
For our students who want to concentrate further on their dance training we offer a competition team class.
Theses classes concentrate on Contemporary technique, Ballet basics, floor work, contact work, strength and conditioning and flexibilty.
Our Mission
Feet First Dance was set up 20 years ago to provide dance classes to students of all ages and abilities. 20 years down the line we have now expanded to include multiple creative classes in various artistic fields and rebranded as Feet First Arts Academy.
After having some awful dance experiences as a child, I wanted to be able to offer classes in different styles of dance and creative genres where the students wouldn't fall prey to favouritism, size stereotypes or negative criticism. I also aimed to offer classes that wouldn't break the bank.
We offer our students outside experiences within the field of dance taking them to different dance platforms across the region and, in some cases, across the country.
Many of our students have also had the opportunity to dance for camera, featuring in Feet Firsts own dance for camera projects. They have also been the principle dancers in Vinyl Jacket's music videos.
A number of our students have gone on to study dance at university with some graduating from dance schools such as Laban, The London School of Contemporary Dance, ALRA and London Studio Centre.
