After the New Republic was formed, one goal was set for it's first ship. It needed to display grandeur and beauty, while at the same time making an unforgettable first impression on all who saw that ship. All the while, that same ship needed to be capable of power projection, and it needed to be easy to fly. That ship was the New Republic Starhawk.
Based on the design of the FF-57 Liam St. John-class Frigates of the United Federation, the Starhawks were designed to have a more aerodynamic profile, and the tail specifically is noticeably shorter lengthwise, and has a steeper two-part angle. The first Starhawk, Enterprise, was completed on December 19, as were her sister ships, Columbia, Endeavor, Liberty, Republic, and Alliance. The ships were split between the members of the New Republic the next day.
The first incident (and so far only incident) involving a New Republic Starhawk was the so-called "Petri Incident," named for Sec. of the Navy Calvin Petri. During Dec. 20th's 5th hour choir session, Secretary Petri 'lost' the Starhawk Endeavor and the cruiser Independence. The thought of a Granache sabotage was ruled out quickly as it was determined that no Granache Member participated in Choir. However, one of the Weeb Nation Dictators, Jack Deminsky, was present and in fact very close to Calvin when the incident occurred. This led to quite a lot of controversy, and the remains of either ship has yet to be found.
The next step in the ladder of the Starhawks was the Starhawk Model B, and it utilized steeper-angled tail fins, which proved to show minor improvement over the older design. The Round 2 Starhawks were Concord, Unity, and Amity.
The future for the Starhawks is likely a long and prosperous one, as the planes will continue in service as diplomatic vessels (none of the current Starhawks are armed). A preliminary sketch of an armed Starhawk exists.
