New Federation CR-90, circa post-2nd War.
CR-110 Enlightenment.
The CR-110 Corvette is the successor to the venerable CR-90 of the Alliance against Liam, which was refitted several times to keep them in good flying order, and to keep them up-to-date with the rapidly advancing Cruiser and Frigate designs. The CR-110 was available only to members of the New Republic.
The CR-90 Corvette was designed for the Coalition of Independent Paper Plane Enthusiasts (CIPPE) but the design was not finished until it was reformed into the Alliance Against Liam and saw heavy service in that war. The most well known CR-90's were the Tantive IV and the Radiant VII of Tantive and Radiant Contingents (Corvette equivalent to a Fighter Squadron) respectively.
After the two wars the remaining CR-90's were pressed into service with the New Federation, the original name for the U.F.P. While they were certainly recognizable, they were falling behind the fast-advancing technology being developed in the wave of peacetime enterprise. The few remaining CR-90's were refitted into the CR-95 class, which had a secondary fold added at the nose. Despite these shortcomings, the CR-90's saw service (however minuscule) in the War with Noah. However, it was becoming apparent they were not the planes they once were. However, the Federation, now the United Federation, did not order any new corvette designs and instead focused on the promising FF-29 and FF-38 designs, which would become the Lexington-class and Essex-class respectively. Regardless, something needed to be done.
The first design for a new Corvette came much later, on Dec. 23 as Gateway Co. was transitioning to become a New Republic company. The CEO of Gateway, John B.G., wanted to make a brand new corvette as a Christmas gift for the fledgling New Republic, and after toying around with a few back-facing folds, the CR-110 was born (on a side-note, for those of you who don't know, the CR-series of corvettes numbers each new corvette design up by 20. For example, the CR-90's number was 90. 90+20=110, thus the new plane was the CR-110).
The first-in-service CR-110 entered New Republic service on Dec. 24, Christmas Eve, 2017, and was named Freedland. Her three sister-ships were named Endurance, Polaris, and Viscount. These ships immediately entered service with the 1st Fleet and were the first new corvette designs since the end of the 1st Liam War.
As was stated above, the CR-110's were available only to New Archton and there are currently fifteen of the ships. They are joined by the CR-95's Lightmaker and Reliance as well as the CR-40's Protector, Defender, and Guardian. The Ships in service are as follows:
Freedland
Endurance
Polaris
Viscount
Veneer
Raider
Tempest
Nova
Sovereign
Triumph
Enlightenment
Corvus
Epsilon
Gamma
Silverstar
Gateway has stated that it intends to continue mass-producing them for the New Republic. Seeing as the ships are already the most prevalent design in the New Republic, it is likely that we may be seeing a re-surge in Corvette design popularity, and it is an almost guarantee that the Republic of Valentino will order CR-110's when they become available.
