Pressure-Filled Search for the Perfect Dress
by Aislinn Rendulic, Editor-in-ChiefThe search for a perfect prom gown can often seem stressful and overwhelming, but it doesn't have to be if you're well informed. Trying to find the perfect dress for your body shape, style, and skin tone can sometimes feel like you will never succeed. Hopefully, these tips and tricks will help make the crazy process a little more enjoyable.
This prom season feathers, butterflies, and stars are taking over prom stores such as MbProm, One Enchanted Evening, and the Prom Shoppe. Senior Miranda Lapham said, “I love going prom shopping. Trying on new dresses is always a blast.” Before you scan the racks for your perfect dress, it's important to step back and think. Do you want a once-in-a-lifetime fairytale dress? Or do you want a classic dress that you could wear in the future with different accessories?
When you begin shopping, it's important to keep an open mind because something that looks plain and simple on a hanger could look absolutely stunning on. It's also important to note what colors highlight your eyes, hair, skin tone, and what style of dress best flatters your body shape. The best way to hide your “flaws'' is to highlight your good points. Remember the media's emphasis on being thin can make perfectly normal gals feel insecure. Don't fall for that!
Have the confidence to celebrate the way your body was made. Marilyn Monroe wore a size 16 in her most gorgeous gowns, and she is remembered as one of the most beautiful women of all time.
Online prom shops are great ways to shop if you don't feel comfortable stepping into a store, but be careful of scams and return fees. Stores such as Peaches Boutique have great return policies and an abundance of dresses. All-in-all, you're going to look beautiful either way, so don't stress. Eat healthy food, get rest, exercise regularly, and learn to find joy in daily living. The healthier you are physically and mentally, the lovelier you'll look on prom night, which applies to the rest of your life as well!

Sweet Treats for V-Day
by Amara Forsyth, Features Editor & DesignerEvery year when Valentine's Day rolls around the corner, many businesses begin to advertise and sell themed treats including festive drinks, anything with a heart, and anything red. They use cheesy, yet cute, slogans to grab people's attention like “Love is in the Air!” and “Make Someone's Day.”
Let’s be honest, Valentine's Day can be considered an unnecessary holiday, but who can resist adorably shaped food? Starbucks never misses an opportunity to cash in and has, of course, capitalized on a line of festive drinks yet again, especially lovebug lemonade. Senior Taylor Fordyce says, “I was making my weekly trip to Target when I came across a new list of Valentine's Day drinks at Starbucks. I saw there was a lovebug lemonade, which has lemonade, raspberry syrup and strawberry puree in it. Not only was it delicious, but the sweet flavors reminded me of the sweet treats that come with Valentine's Day!” Another business taking advantage of Valentine's Day themed treats is Chick-fil-A, with its heart-shaped chicken nugget trays, as well as Dairy Queen with heart-shaped ice cream cakes. Grab these festive treats to celebrate before they are gone.

Venus Spins and Couples Split
by Triston Norton, Entertainment Editor and DesignerPrepare yourself, there’s a retrograde ahead and it will start to shake things up. Venus, the planet of love and intimacy, will be in retrograde from December 19, 2021 to January 29, 2022. During this time, relationships are turned upside down and they reconsider the way they commit to each other. Since Venus governs relationships, it is wreaking havoc on existing relationships. It seemed to be a trend around the high school that couples were breaking up during this time. Whether it was couples that were heading in that direction, or couples that were perfectly fine, this retrograde caused it to end. Senior Katie Duray states how hard breakups can be, “Breakups can honestly be one of the hardest things people can experience since you're losing someone you thought was your person. The worst part for me, personally, during my breakup was getting out of the daily routine we had created and no longer sharing the little things with him.” Most of us experience breakups at some point in our life and they are never easy. Seeking support from friends and family is important, and encouragement helps to get through it. While dealing with breakups is painful, it allows for people to learn a lot about themselves and to gain the kind of relationships that you deserve.
