Stars Steal Super Bowl
by David Verna, ReporterOne of the most prestigious honors as a musician is being able to perform in the Super Bowl halftime show. This year's performers are used to the spotlight, and some scrutiny. The Compton rap trio, Kendrick Lamar, Snoop Dog and Dr. Dre were at home in Los Angeles for the biggest show of the year. Eminem and Mary J. Blige were also among the performers. With the exception of Blige, the genre of music this year was unusual for a Super Bowl halftime show as a majority of the past performers have been rock stars and pop stars. This year's show lived up to the hype, most notably a comeback performance from Kendrick Lamar and a surprise appearance from 50 Cent. “Kendrick went absolutely crazy,” exclaimed senior Chaz Ewer. SoFi Stadium was lit up with fireworks, an amazing stage display, and the sound of thrilled fans. Safe to say, it was well worth the wait.
Lights, cameras, action! The Super Bowl Music Fest featured three days of performances from a multitude of artists leading up to the Super Bowl. This year's headliners included Machine Gun Kelly, Green Day, Miley Cyrus, Halsey, Gwen Stefani, Blake Shelton, and Mickey Guyton. The shows were well received and highly rated, especially MGK, who had an extraordinary performance.

You Call it Madness, They Call it Love
by Ella Bringe, Business ManagerMegan Fox and Machine Gun Kelly have attracted attention with their special kind of love. Every couple has a personal way to bond with each other, but these two have a unique way of getting close; they drink each other's blood. MGK also gifted his lover with a thorn-embedded engagement ring because, according to him, love is supposed to hurt.
Drinking blood isn’t the only toxic thing about this relationship. Fans say this is “abusive and possessive” behavior. Junior Abbey Podlucky, a big fan of MGK, says, “It’s weird, but if MGK proposed to me with that ring, I’d say yes.” The singer joked and said that “love is pain” which is why he bought Megan Fox a ring that has actual thorns and will hurt if his fiance tries to take it off.
MGK has always lived an edgy lifestyle, but nobody knew Fox had a personality like this when she was starring in Transformers. Their relationship continues to break the internet, and everyone is at the edge of their seats waiting to see what happens next.

The Fallout, Worth the Tears
by Ria Andrae, Editor-in-ChiefIn the all-too-relatable scenes of the new movie, The Fallout, written and directed by Megan Park, I experienced a rollercoaster of emotions and many tears were shed. The Fallout is a groundbreaking and poignant movie that deals with the trauma during the aftermath of a school shooting. Through newly-formed friendships and old ones on the rocks, Vada begins to find herself again while managing family problems and her emotions. As she begins to push her own boundaries and take more chances, she starts to see life through a new perspective and shared experiences.
The movie is aimed toward teenagers and is the first of its kind. It allows us to understand the horror behind school shootings and take more precautions regarding school safety. The Fallout is an amazing representation of the trauma that many have to endure because of such relatable and harrowing events. I recommend this movie to anyone wishing to see change in the world or wanting to learn more about it. Check out The Fallout streaming only on HBO Max.
Chart-Topping and Not Stopping
by Faith Kane, ReporterThe beloved new Disney animated film Encanto has been nothing short of groundbreaking since its release date. On January 24, the film acquired not only one, but three new achievements. As of now, the soundtrack claimed its spot at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 Albums chart for two consecutive weeks. Not only that, but the increasing popularity pushed the song “We Don’t Talk About Bruno” to become the second highest-charting Disney Animation track in Hot 100 History, and caused another song from the film, “Surface Pressure” to become the second Top 10 hit from the soundtrack. Lin-Manuel Miranda, composer of “We Don’t Talk About Bruno”, was incredibly surprised by the smashing success of the film’s soundtrack. Senior Kelly Bane said, “With Encanto’s soundtrack breaking records, exposure to the movie is increased. I think that is very important and wonderful considering how accurate Encanto is with representation in lots of areas.”
The success of the film has not only topped music charts, but has also made many in the Latino community feel represented. This isn’t something that happens often within movie or television production, and Disney completely crushed all children’s movie standards. With each coming week Encanto continues to climb higher and higher, exceeding everyone’s expectations as to just how much this movie would affect the lives of those who watched it.
