Headline-   Access to Health Care isn't only for the Rich

Social Problem: Healthcare in California is unaffordable for the working low income families. In California and nationally, the most cited reason for people being uninsured or underinsured is cost. Many low-income families struggle to get medical care with no insurance. According to the Legislative Analyst’s Office, 3.2 million Californians do not get proper health care. Even those who do have insurance do not receive proper care because of the immense cost to the patients. In the state of California, it is likely that individuals in need of health care will travel south of the United States border to receive affordable treatment. Additionally, in the last twenty years, inflation for health care has exceeded any other inflation rates on any goods and services.

Solution Goal: Community hospitals provide patients with emergency care, intensive care, etc. Their goal is to not only provide patients with the best care as possible but to engage with the local community as well to help people learn about how to live a healthier life. With more community hospitals patients can benefit from free or discounted health services vital services for long term illnesses and unreimbursed costs for care to Medi-Cal recipients. There are roughly 203 community hospitals in California according to the CCS. There should be more community hospitals that can provide patients with all of these things and more like better healthcare for low income families with no insurance. We admire Marin Health due to the many quality services, including Marin General Hospital and all of the specialized health clinics that support our entire community and especially to those who cannot afford health care insurance.
