HURRY! No Sew Cow and Highland Patterns Leaving May 24th
While most people crochet temperature blankets or snakes, I decided that I would put my own twist on this trend. If you don't know, the temperature blanket/snake idea is where you assign a color of yarn to a specific temperature range. Typically, you take the high temperature of the day and crochet a row/round with this color. Another twist on this trend is that every color represents a book genre, and each round is a book you have finished.
I decided that my snake will track my weekly sales on my Etsy shop (Fat Dog Crochet). Since I do not get daily sales (yet), I'll add up my total sales for the whole week (starting Sunday) to determine the color of the band. This is also a stash buster project since I used some random yarn in my stash that I don't use much.
I am using a 3.5mm crochet hook with worsted weight yarn and 8mm safety eyes. I will be using this crochet snake tutorial by One Cent Crochet with a few adjustments to fit 63 rounds in the tail (52 weeks + 11 monthly divider rounds). The great thing about this snake, is that even if you get a bunch of sales a day, you only have to crochet 14 single crochets a week, so you could actually crochet a whole sales tracker snake in a day (if you get that far behind). A few other variations include: one row for every sale but each color is for something like the state it was from or sale type (pattern, plushie, earrings, etc.).
I'd love to see you make your own sales snake; however, I'd appreciate it if you credited Fat Dog Crochet (Etsy or website) as the inspiration (I am the first person to do this as far as I know). I looked at last year's stats and the most sales I've gotten in a week is 3, this year I would love to get to use my light blue and navy yarn! I'd love it even more if I had to choose another color for a higher number of weekly sales.
Here is the yarn I chose:
0 - grayish with tweed
1 - pink
2 - variegated green/lime green
3 - purple
4 - light blue/cyan
5 - navy/medium blue
6 -
7 - yellow
Monthly divider and head - white
Since this is the year 2025, obviously I haven't made my whole 2025 sales tracker snake yet. I will add monthly updates on this page as I crochet them.
I am using a google spreadsheet to keep track of the colors. I have it so that the spreadsheet cell changes color based on the value of the number (ex: if it says 1, it turns pink) so it is easy to read. I will be 100% honest when I crochet this snake, so I won't use a different color just to make myself seem better. For the sales, I will have the week officially start on Sunday and end on Saturday. I will also be having the first and last rounds be half-week so that all the sales are in 2025. If a week occurs in two months, I will put the monthly divider (white round) after that week. I have also decided that my snake will only get a tongue if I make it to 100 sales by 2026.
If you'd love to add more color to my snake and help her earn her tongue, don't forget to head over to my Etsy shop, Fat Dog Crochet. I have no sew amigurumi patterns (and a few low sew ones) as well as physical crochet plushies and micro crochet earrings. My favorite items are micro crochet amigurumis which I also turn into stitch markers.
Here is what my snake is looking like for January. From January 1-4 (half week), I got 2 sales. From the 5th to the 11th, I also got 2 sales. In the third week of January (12th-18th) I didn't get any sales, but the 4th week made up for it when I got 3 sales and was able to use my favorite color - purple. In the last week of January (January 16 through February 1st) I sadly did not get any sales. The white round at the end shows that the month is over, and it is a fresh month. I can't wait to see my snake grow throughout the year and give her a tongue.
With 3 sales, February was quite a bit slower than January's 7 sales. For the first two weeks of February I didn't get any sales, however on the third week I got a sale and got two sales in the last week for a double order. This gives me an average of 1.1 sales a week and that adds up to just under 100 sales (include last year's sales) by the end of the year. If business doesn't start picking up, then Sally the Sales Snake may remain tongueless forever.
With only three sales in 5 weeks, March was rough. In fact, after getting 2 weeks of no sales in a row I decided to switch up the colors of my sales snake to be brighter (meaning I recrocheted all the segments) and then didn't touch it for 2 months. Anyways, the first I got two sales, then didn't get any sales for a week, I got a sale in the third, and then no more sales for the rest of the month.
April has been my best month so far with 6 sales, averaging 1.5 a week. As a little bonus, the alternating green (two sales) and pink (one sale) stripes are perfect for Easter. My bestsellers this month were the mystery plushies and no sew sea turtle pattern with two sales each.
