Career Competencies
Career + Self-Development: This project provided an introduction into navigating archival research, allowing me to learn that although I do find such work challenging, it is fulfilling and I would like to pursue it further in my academic and professional career.
Critical Thinking: Due to the nature of my research topic, synthesizing a plethora of information doled out to the public in just a few months allowed me to more easily empathize with the shocked community of the time. I also formed some atypical ways of researching, as attempting to find and corroborate information was difficult.
Technology: Navigating online databases and finding relevant records was crucial in this project, as the materials existed within archives out of state, and/or were not easily accessible. This helped me better appreciate the value of online archival collections in terms of expediency when time seemed rather short.
