  • Assists Media Specialist in managing the FHS Media Center
  • Oversees Media Services students while they check books in/out to student and teacher patrons
  • Oversees Media Services students while they return books to the shelves
  • Assists Media Specialist in overseeing Media Services students as they work to maintain an organized library space

Meet the MEDIA SERVICES STUDENT ASSISTANTS at Fenton High School

The 2018-2019 Media Services Students were: Dow Kaenpracha, Norvia Brandt, Sabrina Hall, Erica Hering, Delaney Fries, Emily Austin, Sara Eisenbies, Erin Carter, Jessica de Boyerie, and Grace Niec

Each year 1-2 students work at the circulation desk each class period assisting the Media Specialist and the Library Technical Assistant with the daily operations of the Media Center. Their responsibilities include:

  • Check in/out books and materials
  • Shelve books
  • Answer circulation desk phone
  • Clean and organize Media Center
  • Read and advertise new books
  • Assist with setting up displays and bulletin boards
  • Complete learning assignments
  • Any other duties as given by Media Specialist/Teacher Rachael Hodges-Hassell


Meet RACHAEL HODGES-HASSELL, MLIS, District Media Specialist, High School Media Specialist, Media Services Teacher, and Online Course Supervisor at Fenton High School:

  • Oversees all five district Media Centers
  • Makes bi-monthly visits to each building
  • Hosts bi-monthly Media Staff Meetings
  • Teacher for the course titled Media Services at Fenton High School
  • Sets up thematic displays to encourage reading
  • Runs reports for data analysis
  • Orders supplies and resources for the Fenton High School Media Center
  • Catalogs resources for the Fenton High School Media Center
  • Manages the Fenton High School Media Center collection
  • Works collaboratively with the Director of Innovation to assist with technology deployment, user accounts, etc.
  • Works with department chairs, the Diploma Program Coordinator, the School Improvement Chair, and the Director of Teaching and Learning to ensure necessary resources are available for students and staff
  • Teaches mini-research lessons to all grade levels/subject areas
  • Offers all 9th graders an FHS Media Center orientation
  • Stays current on library trends and YA Literature
  • Acts as a mentor/supervisor for students enrolled in online classes and GenNET ITV coursework
  • Acts as mentor and resources to all staff members
  • Attends REMC-14 Council meetings at the GISD each month
  • Implemented Mindfulness and Yoga to assist meeting the building school improvement goal related to social-emotional learning needs
    • Drop-In Yoga sessions during SRT
    • Yoga with Mrs. Moore's Girls Fitness and Conditioning classes every Wednesday
    • Yoga and Mindfulness with Mrs. Thompson's IB Theater class every Thursday
    • Full Mindfulness Course with Mott Early Middle College - scheduled during the Month of May after Mott classes had been completed
