Mobilizing The Church on behalf of families and children in need.
The orphan crisis in the US and around the world is heartbreaking, with a staggering 153 million children in the world labeled as orphans. The definition of an orphan does not only include children with two deceased parents, and orphan care includes supporting families and communities with a goal of rehabilitating and establishing complete families for all children. An orphan is a child deprived of one or both of their parents by means including death, abandonment, removal, etc.
Children who do not have access to their fathers can be considered orphans, and with over 25 million children in the US living without a father, it is important that we work to combat the breakdown of the family unit.
There are over 400,000 children in foster care in the US foster today, with a staggering 20,000 aging out of the system each year.
There are well over 100,000 children ready to be adopted in the US.
The need is immense and it can seem overwhelming, but everyone can help in some way. One person cannot do everything, but if everyone focuses on advocating and helping the families and children in their community, we will start to see real change in the US and around the world.
About me
Hi, my name is Maddy Del Rio, thanks for visiting my site! I hope that you are able to learn more about the great need for caring for children and families in need, that you can find ways to get involved and take action, and that you are encouraged to advocate in your own community.
A little about me: I am a college student at Northern Kentucky University studying Secondary English Education. I am passionate about English, teaching, and advocating for orphans! My family has been doing foster care since I was 9 (I am 21 now). I have 5 siblings, three are adopted from foster care, and I have had 11 foster siblings total. I also have 5 adopted cousins, and 3 of them are from outside of the US.
