A Grove For Growth

Description: Blending the area's natural splendor and local pride, this mural encourages the viewer to participate in the outdoor activities that bring the community together. Located on a newly constructed apartment building, “A Grove for Growth” was designed by Katie Spak and her design team at Streetsense. The location of this mural is important to the Falls Church community as it signifies the growth of our city and the natural beauty of Northern Virginia. In the mural's background, the Blue Ridge Mountains stand tall over Falls Church harkening back to the days when the mountains were visible from our city. In front of the mountains are the Washington & Old Dominion (W&OD) Trail, a 45-mile trail that weaves its way through the various communities in Northern Virginia. Look for the Tinner Hill Monument, which can also be found in the Falls Church artwalk. The mural encapsulates the history of Falls Church by showcasing the historic colonial houses and the Cherry Hill Farmhouse highlighting the importance of the agricultural history of the region. The mural also includes the state tree and flower of Virginia- the flowering dogwood or Cornus florida, honoring Falls Church's designation as a "Tree City" and the commitment to urban forest management.
