I wrote this paper for my internship course analyzing the law that separates religion from State. Through this paper I utilized many resources in French and English to understand the law called La Laïcite. I examined the dynamic of French law in correlation with how the citizens view it. I conducted many interviews with French citizens, students, faculty, and staff to understand how this law has personally affected them in their daily lives. The analysis of this law has been broadened by Horizon to then compare laws in France to laws in the United States. Understanding the difference in similarities between laws and different countries was very beneficial and helped me to understand more foreign policy as well as How the influence of laws shape culture. This analysis strengthened my ability to interpret narratives, understand cultural differences, and relate policies to a citizen's narrative. As someone pursuing a career in healthcare, skills will be helpful when trying to understand diverse stories and backgrounds. But understanding how important it is to link research with interviewing and understanding how certain cultural policies impact certain individuals I can become a better vessel to help others. this artifact demonstrates my growth and interpretation, competency, and attentiveness which are all things important to building more skills and allowing me to become a better candidate when caring for others in a global health field.
I wrote this paper for my internship course analyzing what it means to have an internship abroad. Through this paper, I had a lot of reflection on why it was important for me to study abroad and try to complete an internship abroad. Having an internship abroad was important to me as it opened many doors to help me learn the language, the culture, and more about the location I was living in temporarily. I had previously talked to other students from Clemson who had also done this program and discussed why they thought it was important to have an internship abroad. While talking to them I quickly became more and more excited to complete this internship and to see what it would bring. After completion of this internship I realized that among so many things I learned what it meant to face certain difficulties in a workplace where the primary language was not a language I was fluent in. Analyzing why I wanted to have this Global Experience allowed me to reflect on my own narrative and understand why I had wanted to have this be a part of my study abroad experience. As someone who has prioritized ensuring I meet the prerequisites for a career in healthcare it is important to understand why I chose to do this. This piece of writing was a critical part as it showed me my original intent and aspirations before going into an internship. It made me reflect on why I thought this experience was important and how so I thought it would change me. Looking back I realized how important it is to draw these initial statements so that I can reflect on them later and understand how I met my goals and also learned more from the experience. Having this initial piece of documentation is something I hope to continue to do in the healthcare field as I want to have open goals but also fluid goals in which I can learn from.
