Jeff Cookston, PhD, Professor, Department of Psychology
Jeff (he/his pronouns) was grew up in Texas and obtained a B.A. from Southwestern University in Georgetown, TX, and got his M.A. and Ph.D. in Educational Psychology - Human Development and Education from the University of Texas at Austin. After a two-year post-doctoral fellowship at Arizona State University in the Prevention and Intervention Research Center, he accepted a position at San Francisco State University in 2003 where he teaches developmental psychology undergraduate and graduate courses for the Psychology Department. He's served as department chair and graduate coordinator for the Psychology Department and is involved with the Society for Research on Adolescence.
His research has many foci: fathers (and mothers), divorce and separation, social construction of family life, and preventive interventions for individuals and families. He is especially interested in longitudinal methods and finding the right statistical technique for the question, whether it be ethnographic or structural equations modeling. Since 2009, he's been collecting data with preschool-aged children to teach observation methods and technical writing.
