Family Interaction Research Laboratory

Studying change within families over time and across transitions

In the Family Interaction Research Lab (FAIR), we focus on change within families over time and across transitions. Of special interest is the evolving relationship of children with their fathers and mothers during times of transition such as divorce, adolescence, and emerging adulthood. FAIR projects tend to include observation, surveys, interviews, narratives, and other mixed methods.

In the FAIR lab, we focus on four broad areas:

1) The examination of the role of mothers and fathers for children's social and emotional adjustment with a special focus on the social construction of fatherhood.

2) The study of interparental processes such as conflict and coparenting and their links to child adjustment.

3) Understanding how intervention with families in transition and children in schools can promote positive emotional adjustment .

4) Exploring longitudinal methodologies for studying families and individuals over time.
