Some ways to integrate vinyl cutting or sticker making into the classroom might be to create stickers that help students feel like part of a classroom family. I think that vinyl cutting could also be used as an assessment tool by designing a sticker that requires students to test the knowledge that they learned. It could also be used as a badge that students receive as they complete a list of activites for assignments.
I think that this would support my teachings because it allows students to feel like they are in a safe and positive atmosphere and therefore are more open to learning and making mistakes in order to learn. It also allows for a fun manipulative to be used in order to check for completion and understanding.
One way to implement stickers into a lesson would be to use it as a manipulative to to reinforce the teaching or to use as an assessment. The lesson that I thought of this week was a science lesson where students were comparing pictures of parents and offspring. The stickers would be little eyes, ears, nose, colors, and fur. The students would have to place the stickers on laminated cards to show the similarities of the parent and offspring. I think it would support the teaching because it allows students to not only observe the similarities and differences but it allows them to have a concrete example in their hands to physically place the similarities onto a card.
I feel like I would be more comfortable with digital fabrication for kids because the age range of students that I am doing my student teaching in. I am currently doing my student teaching with students ages 5-7 years old and they do not have a lot of access to technology for digital fabrication. I feel like designing the digital fabrication would be more beneficial for this age range because the digital fabrication could be used as a manipulative to help support the lesson.
This sticker was created using canva and a picture of my dog Hooch.
This sticker was created using ChatGPT and I asked for it to create a sticker that promoted problem solving with several students and a light bulb.
I created this sticker using canva and based in on my next weeks unit focus for 1st grade ELA module focusing on Community helpers.
This is me using the Silhouett to cut out my beautiful stickers that I created.
Creating these stickers was pretty simple to begin. I was able to design my stickers using canva, ChatGPT and a picture of my dog. Once my stickers were designed with help from the Warrior Fab Lab I took my stickers to Silhouette studios software to upload my stickers, created a trace line around my image, and finally printed my stickers on a piece of sticker paper. Once my stickers were printed I placed them on a cutting mat and loaded them into the Silhouette. Once the mat was loaded into the Silhouette it created a cut around my stickers and I was able to peel them off nicely!
