I am student teaching in a self contained 1st grade classroom. The students are in the age range of 5-7 years old. I teach in a rural area of Turlock, California.
I am from a small farming town of Crows Landing, California. I have previous experience as a bilingual para educator in a Kindergarten classroom. I started the credential program in the fall of 2024 and will complete my multiple subject credential this fall 2025.
I have very little experience with digital fabrication in education. This past summer 2025 I had the opportunity to help develop and teach 2 summer camps that were based in the Warrior FabLab at California State University Stanislaus.
There are endless possibilities on implementing the digital fabrication in my 1st grade student teaching placement.
The wooden rectangle is one of the things that I created over the summer. I created this during a meeting where we were asked to create a name plack that expressed our identities. I chose an image of an assortment of biological images because before starting the credential program I received my B.S in Biology and I have a great fondness towards the sciences. I chose the little saying "Mistakes are proof you are trying" because I am still learning how to be a teacher and how to use digital fabrication in a classroom and I need to remind myself constantly that it is okay to make mistakes.
These are two buttons that I created during my science methods class in my credential program. I like these buttons because they are the first things I created using tools from the FabLab. I like to reflect on them because it allows me to see how far I have come and how much further I have to go.
The idea that I have for my field activity is 3D printing blocks that contain letters of the alphabet for students to use to create words during small group instruction. The blocks will have one letter on them and have interlocking parts so that a word can be formed.
