"I’ve just completed a block of 10 lessons with Fabio and I’ve thoroughly enjoyed the process and will be continuing my guitar journey with him. I would highly recommend to anyone looking to improve their guitar playing. I’ve made more progress than I had expected. Fabio is very patient and explains each aspect of technique or theory so that, as a beginner, I can understand it and then go away and develop my skills and understanding. Fabio also has a very flexible approach to teaching and has tailored the lessons to suit my learning style. He also make a great cup of tea!!"
"I'm currently having jazz guitar and theory lessons with Fabio. He is a great teacher with a clear and engaging style. We have already covered a lot of new concepts and I'm looking forward to solidifying them and learning more. I always leave each lesson with a clear idea of what to practice and explore."
"Fabio is a friendly experienced teacher with a depth of knowledge suitable for any level. I bought lessons for my step son for Xmas and he has been thrilled with his tuition. This feedback is from my step son and he should know because he is a teacher himself."
"Fabio is an outstanding guitarist with a deep knowledge of the instrument and music theory. He also plays with a passion and musical ear that connects emotionally. Highly recommended as a teacher."
Fabio is a jazz and rock guitarist, composer and multi-instrumentalist with 10 years of professional and teaching experience. He visits and receives students on weekdays and weekends. His bands range from jazz to hip-hop, funk, neo-soul, contemporary classical music, rock, folk, among other genres. Wide experience from live performances and studio releases under his name and as a session musician. He has played original material as well as covers that include Pink Floyd and Kendrick Lamar, at festivals such as Shambala, venues in Bristol and all around the UK and wedding gigs. Lessons can cover every possible genre and level. Fabio teaches adults and kids and is experienced with both 1-1 and group lessons.
When he started playing guitar as a teenager, Fabio was fully into metal, which made him make huge progresses in guitar technique in a very short time; then he gradually started exploring improvisation, from blues to jazz to free jazz, and classical music composition.
What makes him a unique musician is the curiosity and the creativity to go completely beyond genres: applying ideas from all sorts of influences and create his own. Although if he needs to provide specific guitar playing, e.g. in traditional jazz, funk, R&B or folk, nothing too fancy is gonna come out!
Fabio also plays flute (available for lessons), classical guitar (available for lessons), piano, didgeridoo, saxophone. He's got a PhD in maths.
Every lesson is tailored and flexible and goes from entry level to advanced. Fabio is experienced with all ages: from kids to mature learners, 1-1 and group lessons. He encourages playfulness and always wants to know about the student's taste, goals and musical personality before anything else.
In the first lesson he will gently assess what level we are in by asking the student to play a piece or fragment of their choice, name a few things they know about the instrument and notes, chords, scales. Fabio always encourages active awareness for the development of a deep musical personality; in particular, knowing the notes and intervals, and being able to work chords and scales out rather than memorising patterns. However, he wouldn't force it if the student is fully allergic to music theory: there are many ways to learn pieces and have an intuitive understanding of music. The important thing that is valued is that learning an instrument is a medium for knowing yourself better and being able to express yourself through a new language.
Fabio is happy to teach grades although often his students aren't interested in pursuing formal instrument exams. He's experienced with rock and pop guitar students, jazz training and classical training. Technique alongside theory, ear training, improvisation and composition, in a proportion that only depends on what the student is looking for.
Here some extract of a jazz (classical) guitar lesson given to the musician Miles Hutchinson (Try Me, Hector Who Lives), starting to analyse the chord progression of the jazz standard 'Misty'.
