Introduction to CAD - Laser Cutter Press-Fit Build Kit
Description - M2-Week 2
My press-fit design can be used as a functional pencil holder, which makes it immediately relevant for classroom use while also serving as a learning tool. Students can use the box to store materials such as pencils, markers, or tools, while also exploring how the structure was designed and assembled. Instructionally, this can be integrated into a lesson on measurement, geometry, and engineering design, where students analyze how the pieces fit together, explore dimensions, and even redesign or modify the structure. Other teachers could use this as part of a design challenge where students create their own functional classroom objects. This connects to standards focused on problem-solving, modeling, and real-world application, while also promoting creativity and hands-on learning.
I have developed educational materials and documentation of my work, which can be considered part of an education portfolio. An education portfolio is valuable because it showcases teaching practices, lesson designs, and student-centered approaches in a tangible way. It allows educators to reflect on their growth, document innovation, and share successful strategies with others. Through this experience, I see even more value in including artifacts like digital fabrication projects, as they highlight both creativity and instructional design.
I evaluate the success of a learning activity by examining both student understanding and engagement. This includes observing student participation, reviewing student work, and assessing whether learning objectives were met. I also reflect on what worked well and what could be improved. To track modifications, I make notes after each lesson and adjust future instruction based on those reflections. Including these reflections in a learning diary or portfolio is especially valuable, as it creates a record of continuous improvement. This process helps me refine my teaching practices and ensures that activities become more effective over time.
