God's Desire for a Dwelling Place

Isaiah 66:1-2 Thus says Jehovah, / Heaven is My throne, / And the earth the footstool for My feet. / Where then is the house that you will build for Me, / And where is the place of my rest?  2 For all these things My hand has made,  / And so all these things have come into being, declares Jehovah. / But to this kind of man will I look, to him who is poor / And of a contrite spirit, and who trembles at My word. 



Exodus 25:8-9 And let them make a sanctuary for Me that I may dwell in their midst; 9 According to all that I show you, the pattern of the tabernacle and the pattern of all its furnishing, even so shall you make it. (cf. Exo. 40:34-35)


1 Kings 6:12-14 As for this house that you are building, if you walk in My statutes and execute My ordinances and keep all My commandments by walking in them, then I will establish My word with you, which I spoke to David your father; 13 And I will dwell in the midst of the children of Israel, and I will not forsake My people Israel. 14 So Solomon built the house and finished it. (cf. 1 Kings 8:4, 11; 2 Sam. 6-7)


John 1:14 And the Word became flesh and tabernacled among us (and we beheld His glory, glory as of the only Begotten from the Father), full of grace and reality. 

John 2:19, 21 Jesus answered and said to them, Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up. 21 But He spoke of the temple of His body.


1 Corinthians 6:19 Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own?

Ephesians 3:17 That Christ may make His home in your hearts through faith, that you, being rooted and grounded in love.

Hebrews 3:6 But Christ was faithful as a Son over His house, whose house we are if indeed we hold fast the boldness and the boast of hope firm to the end.

1 Timothy 3:15 But if I delay, I write that you may know how one ought to conduct himself in the house of God, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and base of the truth.


Matthew 16:16, 18 And Simon Peter answered and said, You are the Christ, the Son of the living God. 18 And I also say to you that you are Peter, and upon this rock I will build My church, and the gates of Hades shall not prevail against it.

Ephesians 5:32 This mystery is great, but I speak with regard to Christ and the church.  


Hebrews 8:5 Who serve the example and shadow of the heavenly things, even as Moses was divinely instructed when he was about to complete the tabernacle; for "See," He said, "that you make all things according to the pattern that was shown you in the mountain."

Ezekiel 43:10-11 You, O son of man, describe the house to the house of Israel, that they may feel humiliated because of their iniquities, and let them measure the pattern. 11 And if they feel humiliated because of all that they have done, make known to them the design of the house, its arrangement, its exits, its entrances, its whole design, and all its statutes - indeed its whole design and all its laws; and write them down in their sight, that they may keep its whole design and all its statutes, and do them.
