Stamatics
Stamatics is a mathematics students society at IIT Kanpur. I was the convener of this society for academic years 17-18 and 18-19. Our team organised talks and other mathematics-related fun activities. More details can be found here.
Languages
During school days I did not like languages but now I enjoy learning them. Apart from English and the native languages Marathi and Hindi, I have learnt Sanskrit (6 years), German (2 years), French (2 years) and Czech (1 year). During my 1 year stay in Italy, I used conversational rudimentary Italian but did not get a chance to learn it formally. Currently I am assisting Sayantan Roy to help translate Grothendieck's autobiography Recoltes et Semailles into English.
Music
Like most mathematicians, I also enjoy music. From a scientific point of view, music is all about patterns and combinations which soothe human ear I have taken lessons in vocal North Indian Classical Music for 4 years, in Harmonium for 5 years, Tabla for 2 years and violin for 1 year. I am looking forward to resume my music education once I know how to balance professional and personal life!
Writing
I have been writing poems ever since I was a kid but as I grew older with maths, my expression has turned more abstract. As time permits, I still write prose and poems in Marathi as well as English. While I participated in a science poetry competition in Manchester, I wrote a poem about the "axiom of choice" which can be read and heard here.
Other activities
I had my own laboratory at home between 2004-07 where I conducted 200+ experiments. My interest in coordinate chemistry still persists although now it has been a long time since I have lost touch with chemistry.
C programming is still my hobby and I use it for research whenever I need it.
I assisted an Engineering Project in `Colour and Printing Technology' by modeling the Colour Gamut using Homotopy Theory, 2009-10
I completed a one year research project as a part of Muktangan Exploratory Science Centre- Pune Inter College Consortium program, titled 'Application of Statistics in study of Periodic Table' under guidance of Dr. M.B. Rajarshi, Dept of Statistics, Univ. of Pune, 2007-08.
For several years, I have been actively involved with organising and anchoring games, music programs as well as fun competitions.
