Q.ย Is there a camping site near Zumwalt Prairie?

There are also many pull-offs and dispersed camping spots along the Zumwalt-buckhorn road and nearby forest service roads. These are undervalued campsites where you camp outside official campgrounds. Remember - there is very limited or no cell service, no water, garbage service, gravel roads, best for self-contained campers or tents. For easier full service camping, grab a campspot closer to Joseph with showers, hookups, and easier access before driving to Zumwalt.
Choose Wallowa Lake State Park, Park at the River, Five Peaks RV Park, Log House RV Park, etc.. A lot of visitors stay in Joseph or Enterprise, then make Buckhorn Overlook a long scenic day trip because the prairie is very remote.

Q. How did the bronze statues come about in Joseph Oregon; is there bronze naturally in the environment there?
A. No, there isn't a natural source of bronze in the Joseph area. Bronze is a man-made alloy, primarily made from copper and tin, so the statues are not there because bronze occurs naturally in the Wallowa Valley.
Joseph became a bronze-art town after local foundries opened in 1982. The foundries attracted artists from all over the country, and by the 1990s the community began placing bronze sculptures along Main Street. Today they're one of Joseph's signature attractions."
That's why Joseph is often called "the Bronze Capital of Oregon."

Q. Where can I buy post cards in Joseph Oregon?
A. You can buy postcards in Joseph Oregon in Mad Mary's at 5 S Main Street Joseph, OR 97846 Phone: (541) 432-0547, and Copper Creek Mercantile at 15 S Main Street, Joseph, OR 97846 Phone: (541) 398-8801, Anton's Gift Shop at 6 S Main Street, Joseph, OR 97846 (541) 432-2690, and possibly Moonlight Graphics 102 N Main Street, Joseph, OR 97846 2215 (541) 432-2215.
Q. Can I hike from the base of the tramway to the top on foot, and what is the elevation?
A. The elevation is 8100 ft.. Although the miles from bottom to top are only about 3/4 of a mile. There is no trail for hiking that specific route. It is known as the steepest tram in North America - 4500 vertical feet. Hiking the E. Moraine or Iwettemlaykin trails would be more doable.
Q. Why is the vegetation in Joseph Oregon so lush - so far from the pacific?
A. Joseph stays green because the Wallowa mountains catch snow and moisture, then slowly release that water all summer. The mountains create a little alpine oasis in an otherwise much drier part of eastern Oregon. That is also why visitors often call the Wallowa's the "Alps of Oregon". Wallowa mountains and Wallowa lake create a landscape that feels surprisingly lush for being over 30 miles from the pacific ocean.
Q. I was told by a relative that my uncles name is on a bench somewhere in Joseph Oregon, but I can't find it?
ย A. Go to the Joseph Oregon Museum at 110 S Main Street, Joseph, OR 97846 (541) 432-6095ย
Q. Is it possible to bike around the entire Wallowa lake?
ย A. There is a partial bike path and pavement throughout the east side of the lake for biking. You can bike from the top of the lake to the bottom or vice-versa on that route relatively easily. However, on the west side there is a path up the west moraine by the end of the boat dock to the left of the marina against the mountain, made of gravel in which you can walk your bike up. This trail leads to more mostly gravel paths at the back side of the lake by cabins and homes mostly. Although it is possible to ride your bike through there...it will not be smooth sailing like the east side.
Q. Is there a scenic route to get from Joseph Oregon to Hwy 12, without going to Hat Point Lookout?
