Joe (14, 9th Grade) (He/Him): I hope to be a forensics anthropologist and/or Entomologist. I love graphic design, bug pinning, and writing. Fun fact, I make my own stickers and jewelry!
Nevaeh (17, Junior) (she/her): My name is Vea, I am a Junior at Siletz Valley School. I enjoy playing volleyball and doing crafts like beading. I joined the H2O program to learn about marine life and their environment. I plan to go to school to be an environmental scientist!
Micah (10th Grade): My name is Micah I am in 10th grade and I want to be an engineer. I wrestle and am good at Among Us.
Safiya (10th Grade): My name is Safiya and I am in 10th grade. My hobbies are playing video games and sports. I own a pug named Mimi. I am pretty funny and my dad owns a C6 Corvette. I play a lot of Fortnite.
Dean (16, 11th Grade): My name is Dean, I am a 16 year old Junior. My favorite hobby is wrestling. A fun fact about me is that I like to eat, eat, eat apple and banana.
Tamiya (17, 11th Grade) (she/her): My favorite hobby is painting and I like baking. Thinking about cosmetology school for for after graduation!
Kyler (15, 9th Grade): I enjoy basketball and athletics. I used to live in Sweethome but was born in Siletz. I like being connected to family and am loyal to my friends and family.
Kiara (15, 10th Grade): I want to be a coach and a fun fact is my eyes change colors somewhat.
Julian: My name is Julian and I joined this program because I had fun in it and I think it's beneficial. One thing I enjoy is nature and the sound of rain bouncing off the leaves and the ground.
Kiya (15 9th grade) (she/her): My name is Kiya I enjoy music and taking naps. After I graduate I want to go to college to be a doctor. I like going to powwows and beading!

Korey Cimock (she/her), High School Science Teacher in Siletz. I know a lot about fly fishing and forensic science. I’d like to learn more about youth psychology. Outside of work you can find me on a run or on sunny days enjoying a book outdoors.
Theresa Smith M, Siletz (she/her). I am a Tribal Language and Cultural Arts instructor at Siletz Valley School. I had the opportunity of supporting our students in this program which had a lot of cultural connections. I know a lot about beadwork and traditional arts. I'd like to learn more about traditional ecological knowledge.
Meet the 2023-2024 Mentors
These amazing OSU students represent a diverse mix of undergrads and graduate students, with interests from badgers to moss to physics!
Jack (4th Year Ph.D. Student): My name is Jack, I’m a 4th year Ph.D. student in Physical Oceanography. My research focuses on understanding beach erosion and accretion. I’m also enrolled in OSU’s Graduate Certificate in College and University Teaching Program. In my free time, I like mountain biking and shaping, glassing, and riding surfboards.
Lara Breitkreutz (25, 2nd Year Graduate Student): My name is Lara Breitkreutz I am 25 years old and a second-year graduate student in Marine Resource Management. Hobbies include rock climbing, gardening, and trying new things. I study the resilience and restoration of coastal ecosystems in an era of climate change. Fun fact, I've got dual citizenship with Germany.
Jake Marshall (Masters Student): My name is Jake Marshall and I’m a Masters student in Marine Resources Management at OSU. I study marine fish spatial dynamics and am doing research on Pacific lakes overlap with the Oregon Offshore wind and energy project. I love to surf, fish, and bake bread.
Carolyn Crofford (Undergraduate): Student at OSU studying Bioresource Research and Sustainability with a focus on Fungi Genetics and Bioinformatics. I love hiking and exploring the coast with my pets. My favorite food is green chile mashed potatoes. I love photography and writing.
Hunter (Akúnvaan) Grove (22, 5th Year Undergraduate) (She/They): Student at Oregon State University studying Environmental Science with an option in Applied Ecology and a GIS Certification. Currently, I am studying the American Badger in Oregon with Dr. Samantha Chisholm Hatfield comparing Tribal perspectives to Western views and how they both affected the population over time. I enjoy outdoor activities as well as reading and drinking hot chocolate!
