Griplock was born out of necessity on the disc golf course. After years of using chalk bags that leaked, wore out, or didn’t work when it mattered most, I set out to design something better. I wanted a cleaner, more reliable way to keep my hands dry without making a mess in my bag. What started as a simple sketch turned into hundreds of prototypes, field tests, and late nights in the shop. The result is Griplock—a precision-made, refillable chalk case built from durable materials and designed for real-world use. It’s the product I wish had existed when I started, and now it does.
I filed a preliminary patent for its design, trademarked the word "griplock" for disc golf use, and founded Max Labs LLC to bring it to life. That process pushed me far outside my comfort zone—from learning how to navigate intellectual property law to setting up business infrastructure from scratch. Every step has been a challenge, but also an opportunity to master new systems, ask better questions, and grow as both a designer and entrepreneur. It’s been the most hands-on education I could ask for, and it’s just the beginning.
