Welcome to this issue on "Sexuality Education in Classrooms"
Foreword
Sexuality education is undergoing a profound shift, shaped by young people’s voices, cultural realities, and the urgent need for safety and wellbeing in schools. This issue brings together research that challenges familiar assumptions and invites educators to rethink how, what, and why we teach. Across diverse contexts—from primary classrooms to adolescent experiences—one message stands out: children and young people are ready for honest, respectful, and inclusive learning. At the same time, teachers need clarity, confidence, and support to guide these conversations with sensitivity. Families, too, are emerging as strong partners in strengthening Relationships and Sexuality Education (RSE).
Transforming Sexuality Education highlights this moment of transformation, where traditional models give way to approaches grounded in trust, cultural awareness, and student-centered pedagogy. As classrooms become more diverse and interconnected, the task before us is not simply to update curricula, but to reshape how education honors identity, builds belonging, and prepares young people for safe and healthy relationships. This issue offers insights, challenges, and possibilities for the next chapter of meaningful, equitable RSE.
