Things to be seen in and around Schiedam

• The citycenter is full of old gin distilleries, characteristic warehouses and merchant houses. There is a beautiful Waag and in the harbor you will cross over iron drawbridges.

• Liduina basiliek with Heilig Hartbeeld.

• Het Jenevermuseum In its heyday, 1 million liters of gin were distilled here every week. Many varieties, with secret spice recipes, were destined for countries all over the world. Each with their own taste preference. From grain to drink, everything was done here in Schiedam - the grain came a.o. from the Romanovs from Russia. That meant wealth, but the city was blackened because of the coal burning in the distilleries and malt houses. In the historic Branderij De Gekroonde Brandersketel (located in the National Jenever Museum Schiedam) Old Schiedam malt wine gin is still distilled on coal in the traditional way (according to a recipe from 1700). • De Nolet-distilleerderij (a modern distillery).

• Babbersmolen Stellingmolen (2024-today) (First it was a Steenhuismolen from 1710-1888, after that a stellingmolen (1888-1924). Between 1924 and 2024 the mill was not in use.

• Zakkendragershuisje, with a tower and bell that used to ring when a ship came in, so that the bag carriers knew that grain had to be unloaded.

• Korenbeurs (Corn Exchange).

• Sint-Jacobs-gasthuis, former hospital, now Stedelijk Museum Schiedam.

• De Lange Haven (the Long Harbor).

• Sint-Jan-de-Doperkerk (Harbourchurch) situated on the Grote Markt.

• Schiedamse molens: the six classic smock mills (Mill De Vrijheid, Mill De Noord, Mill De Palmboom, Mill De Kameel, Mill De Walvisch, Mill De Drie Koornbloemen,) and the new “energy mill” De Nolet (2005).

• The Hague: City of peace and justice, several palaces of our royals, seat of government

• Delft: Famous for it’s porcelain (Delft blue), canals and the paintings of Vermeer

• Hoek van Holland: Nice beach, see the big ships sailing in and out the Rotterdam harbours
