Scammers are posing as representatives from the SSA and contacting individuals to get personal information to steal their identity or to use scare tactics so individuals can send them money. Everyone can be affected by this situation, but the scammer’s main goal was to target mostly the elderly. Citizens can protect or prevent this from happening to them by contacting the Social security administration directly and ask questions, being aware the proper way SSA communicates (which is mainly via mail) and to check your credit report often.

This article is about a phishing scam via compromised emails at Virginia Tech university. According to this article, there were fake emails sent to students to apply for fake job opportunities. the goal of the phishing scam was to gain student personal information to steal money or other purposes. Everyone at Virginia State Tech was affected by this phishing scam. To prevent this type of scam do not reply and report to the school I.T team so the email can be looked into.
