Every Ability Counts is a commitee associated with Girl Scouts Kentucky Wildneress Road that focuses on creating experiences for girls with disabilities in the Central Kentucky and Bluegrass region. Working in conjunction with community partners, local therapists and medical professionals, as well as troop leaders in the region who provide programming for girls with disabilities, we are bringing the Girl Scout experience to girls who normally would not have the chance!
Our premier event is a camp just for girls with disabilities that takes place in June each year. Girls from around the state are welcomed to Camp Shawano, a Girl Scout Camp just outside of Lexington, KY, for a week of fun! We engage our local community as well as older girls with disabilities to help make our camp unique and empowering for all.
Two thirds of our campers never had an outdoor camp experience before coming to our camp!
"We had always felt hesitant about sending our daughter to camps that weren’t specifically designed for children with special needs. That’s why we are truly grateful that you created this opportunity. Our daughter felt safe and comfortable with the staff and her peers, and through this experience, she gained more confidence in connecting with others."
- A grateful parent.
