Meet Emily our Director and Senior Youth Work Practitioner
I've dedicated over ten years to youth work, a calling that resonates deeply with my passions and values. This journey is not just a career but a labour of love, inspired by my own transformative experiences in a youth club during my teenage years. These experiences taught me the profound importance of friendships, support, and the myriad opportunities that effective youth programs can offer. Unfortunately, the immense value of youth work is often overlooked in our society, which motivates me to champion its cause even more fervently.
I have a BA in Youth and Community Work, PGCE in Primary Education and am currently studying a MA in Education (Leadership and Management)
My Mission
My mission is clear and unwavering: to provide young people with opportunities to create remarkable memories that will stay with them for a lifetime and serve as a foundation for their future. In a world that often places immense pressure on individuals to achieve and conform, we lose sight of life’s fundamental joys and responsibilities. We forget the privilege of helping others, the importance of enjoying life, not taking ourselves too seriously, and the necessity of frequent laughter. These elements are crucial for a well-rounded and fulfilling life, and I aim to instil these values in the youth I work with.
Training Current and Future Youth Work Professionals
To sustain and amplify the impact of youth work, it’s essential to focus on training both current and future professionals in the field. This involves several key components:
Comprehensive Training Programs
1. Foundational Knowledge:
- Youth Development Theories: Equip professionals with an understanding of developmental stages and the psychological, social, and emotional needs of young people.
- Cultural Competency: Train professionals to appreciate and work effectively within diverse communities, understanding cultural nuances and promoting inclusivity.
2. Practical Skills:
- Program Design and Implementation: Teach professionals how to design, implement, and evaluate youth programs that are engaging, effective, and adaptable to various settings.
- Conflict Resolution and Mediation: Provide skills for managing conflicts and fostering a harmonious environment where all voices are heard and respected.
3. Emotional Intelligence and Leadership:
- Emotional Resilience: Develop professionals’ emotional resilience to handle the stresses and challenges of youth work.
- Leadership Development: Cultivate leadership skills that enable professionals to inspire, guide, and positively influence young people.
My commitment to youth work is driven by a deep belief in its transformative power. By focusing on creating meaningful experiences and providing comprehensive training for professionals, we can ensure that youth work continues to thrive and make a positive impact on future generations. Together, we can help young people build fulfilling lives grounded in joy, kindness, and the appreciation of life’s simple yet profound pleasures.
